For the most part, I disagree with what the OP says. Of course a lot of it is useless and over-done, but there's no such thing as failure... it's all only an experiment. The point being, that there are always going to be few brilliant bits in there. Don't forget, Callan has to come up with material quite fast considering he does a 25 minute slot once a week.

Callan makes some serious points with his humor. I assume the politicians don't listen to it at all, but they'd have you believe it's just child's play! But what would that make them? toddlers?

Apart from Vincent Browne, Callan (and Mario to a lesser extent) is the only one who really grills politicians. Amazing that RTE are willing to have him say the things he does on air, considering the DJs have to be so careful not to offend anyone!

Good final episode in the series...CK has definitely improved since it first started.

And a pretty good Tony Blair as well. A hero of yours across the water no doubt, WMM. :D

Any time I've heard it this year, he has been very good. And usually very up to date as well.

Good mimic, but I hope he's got better material than previous series. Never found it very funny.

The Joe Duffy/Michael O'Leary sketch was good.

    Yes it was.

Sense a bit of strain in there .

    That's not good in comedy.

    Needs to be more relaxed.

    Good listening though...not great.

I thought the Joe Duffy/ MOL segments and the closing act, involving Varadkar and Paschal Donoghue shilling Ireland to foreign investors (public anger may go up as well as down'), were the best parts of the show.

Otherwise, many of the jokes didn't quite land. The Mary Lou item was especially disappointing. Started out well, but fell a bit flat.

Not a great start following the long break. Here's hoping Callan gets back into his rhythm for the next show. When it's good, it's really good.

Couldn't see the joke there at all...

He's not a comedy writer imo. He should get someone else to write the material and he concentrate on the delivery.

He doesn't write the material by himself. Others co-write with him, such as Fiona Looney.

I liked the dig at leo and Eoin myself (rugger buggers to sort housing).

It's looking like varadkar will be as good a source of fun for them as Enda.

Tbh with trump and brexit if ya can't do good satire in this day and age ya probably shouldn't be doing it at all.

Thought it was a good start. The shows come along say from its beginning s.

Shinner jokes write themselves, such as "destroying the border in Ireland while creating one in Spain".

    such as Fiona Looney.

    That could explain it.

A superb mimic but I've never found him to be laugh-out-loud funny.

Should drop MaryLou. Not even close.

Some good take-offs (some bad) but script is Junior Cert standard. Embarrassing.

Mario Rosenstock was a hoot in his prime.

Callan’s impersonation of Leo Varadkar is spot-on.

    Oh wait... :pac:

The Newstalk breakfast sketch from last night was very good. The Williams impression sounds more like Michael O'Leary than Paul Williams, but the material is bang on (if you have ever "endured" the NTBS you'll get it).

I said it before but his MaryLou is appaling.

Not even close Should be simple just concentrate of the rrrrrs

The Gerrrrda Siochana. Also always get in the name check as she does.

    On Drivetime...Question asked.Response.. Well Meerrrrry .....

Yes, it was, it cut to the bone for sure.

    Well spotted.

Oh god, in hindsight, could that Ray D'Arcy sketch not have been pulled in light of his father's death. Especially given that he was talking about "death" in the sketch.
