I was considering retrofitting LED lighting on my cattle trailer but one night a month ago or so was behind a trailer that seemed to disappear as it turned off the road.
It seemed that the tail lighting was only plenty bright while you travelled directly behind it but at any sort an angle the lights just seemed to dim - at a great enough angle they just seemed not visible at all.
This might have been a one off or early example of this LED lighting but I decided that I would put off changing till I find out more about this and why this could happen.

Regarding your question there used to be ads on DD of some outfit that specialised on going to farms rewiring trailed equipment and replacing lamps - reflectors -indicators etc. with LED's

Yes some of the earlier led replacement bulbs only gave out light in one direction. The newer ones are better.

I'm not sure about full led light fittings whether they have rectified this problem or not.

That's were side lights come in

If you have space to fit them the burger lights like this one are the most visible I think. http://stanley-r-harris.co.uk/image/cache/data/cat17/cheese-500x500.jpg

The set on my old trailer were great from any angle. Got them in the local auto shop. They were in a clear case iykwim so the light was not being blocked

The most important thing I've discovered about these led lamps is their resistance to moisture. I fitted 3 trailers with fittings by 24 7 lighting and the electronics are encased in a resin. Good job. Their work lights are not though. Had a pair of €40 floodlights on roof of jeep and they packed up after little more than 12months. Corrosion of aluminum housing and condensation inside the fitting and electronic circuits exposed to the resulting gunk finished them off.

Like these ones Reggie? Have a set of them on the small cow box here and find them fairly good. http://www.ledadvantage.com.au/images/product-images/LA-MA-0012.jpg

That's them exactly. Great light out the side for the numberplate too

Just remember when buying any rear LED trailer lights that they have to be Homolagated E Approved.

Don't get cought out - some of the 247 arent ''E Approved''

God forbid, but if there was a accident and the Garda or Insurance company checked the rear lights on the trailer that Hugh 2 described there would be a issue..!

If retro fitting trailer lights always check to ensure you use 'E Approved' lights and as Reggie said also use / fit LED Side lights and front marker light..

    be safe - be seen

I got a set of them pre wired off eBay there earlier in the year. They were cheap enough, certainly cheaper than you'd buy all the bits to put together and was only a matter of bolting them on nd running th lead too, no messing wiring them.

They are properly e marked and are a good light, have them on the wrapper and you can see the ground glowing behind you when you have foot on the brakes

Ya got mine off eBay too but they weren't pre-wired. Did away with the junction box on mine altogether and soldered the wires together. Stuck led side marker lights on it aswell.
