Largo Foods are due to let 38 people go

because they are upgrading to automated machinary not good for the people admittedly, but the business is carrying on

    http://www.irishexaminer.com/breakingnews/ireland/jobs-lost-at-donegal-food-plant-552314.html
"There's going to be about 38 full-time job equivalent losses, probably about 60-odd people between part-time and full-time," he said.

"The issue is that Donegal is geographically disadvantages for exports to the UK.

"We've had to put in automated equipment. We're spending €3.7m between R&D and putting in new equipment to take down costs.

"If we don’t do that, the whole plant closes."

Last Govt gave loads of grants (millions) to fish factories in killybegs to automate and get rid of workers, when there was absolutely no need, the factory owners had made 100's of millions over the years and could have done it themselves if it had been necessary.

Only factory boats in Ireland belonged to Kevin Mc Hugh, (Veronica, Veronica 2, Atlantic Dawn) he never got a penny from govt for any of them

I'm pretty sure Largo got a large grant of over half a million euro near the start of the year, for the place in Gweedore. Around the same time, a chunk of part time staff was halved, so the other half got fulltime work.

on a positive note, a new butcher opened in Ardara last weekend, the previous butcher was closing and these moved in straight away from what I can tell, hear the meat is great.
Maybe a thread on all the new businesses opening too so not everything is doom and gloom.

Eutec in Letterkenny gone. I don't know the guy personally but I did see him start out from what was virtually a shed and grow to an international business.

In Donegal Town, Donegal's Famous Chipper is closed. Leaseholder seems to be moving down to where Doolittles was opposite Magee factory.

Also, Harry's Diner, previously Abrakebabra is also closed.

Donegal financial services firm to close with loss of 26 jobs
    Tuesday, July 10, 2012 - 08:13 AM

Some 26 jobs have been lost at Donegal financial services call centre Eist agus Cuidiú Teo, it emerged this morning.

The company, established in Gweedore last August and offering services to people to get out of financial trouble through debt management, announced that it is going out of business with all employees to be made redundant.

The company said it was unable to find a way out of its own financial troubles, despite significant state aid, Highland Radio reported.

Aye, noticed the signs alright. Not sure there is need for a third pet shop, with the one behind Diamond Centre and McGraths in Drumrooske, but we'll see.

The dedicated Polish shop might do OK.
