Once you make it onto a waiting list of an AD and then eventually make it to the top of one, surely you are "allowed" to buy one at RRP?
My understanding is that the waiting list in most ADs is not really a linear queue. There are various factors that determine whether you get the call (when a model comes into stock) - so-called VIP status, willingness to buy stale inventory etc.

That might not apply to all ADs. Some may be fairer than others. But it seems to be a common story.

Depends, if your after a sub that you can get at or below retail second hand you will, but on that seadweller, skydweller or daytona the list is like 7 years if your a nobody. You can have one today if you will buy a two tone datejust and a patek at the same time.

That seems the case in the US, hopefully not as bad in Europe!

Maybe not for 2019, just in general,
    Seiko sumo, all colours.
    Seiko marine master black.
    Seiko Shogun.
    Tudor Pelagos black.
That'll do, best not to get too greedy.

    70's or early 80's Seamaster,
    A radio controlled gshock,
    Seiko Bottlecap
    And a Stowa.

The gold one looks cool but not sure I'd be able to pull it off.
Myabe the silver.. it's not a g shock but I do have a edifice wirh radio controlled time and it's cool how when I take it out of the drawer the hands take off and set the time properly

A very handsome watch. Definitely my style and taste.

I've been thinking about what I plan to do in 2019. I've been on an affordable watch binge last year which I'm going to stop. I now have a selection of watches I can choose from each morning. Of what I bought last year, I wore my Tissel vintage sub most often, lately the Merkur Tuna has taken that spot.
This year I've a 3 or 4 watches that need servicing so I'll concentrate on getting that done. I'll also try to save some money towards a higher end watch.

    Mine is on the way!

Going with the rubber strap for now or replace it with my orange Borealis strap. Or indeed I'll copy you razor bracelet idea if you don't mind :)

The Merkur was a good deal at the price I paid. For the same amount I could have had one of my other watches serviced. Hence the do I service a watch or buy just one more bargain.

It does look nice on the razor bracelet though.

Nothing too crazy, there's one or two Seiko Recrafts I'd like to get, then I'd like to buy a watch from some brands I don't currently have in the collection.

Cant make up my mind whether I should by a good watch or not. And on the days when I think I should I'm torn between a Speedmaster Date or a Seamaster 300 midsize. Then the next day I'm thinking I'd be mad to spend 2k on a watch anyway. Rinse and repeat.

For the moment I got myself a Speedmaster lookalike from Citizen which is rather nice...

You don't need to spend two grand. I got my Seamaster 300 full size automatic for a 3 figure sum. Took me a while to find it though.

I would also like a Seamaster 300 for less than a grand. Where did you find it, if you don't mind me asking

Took me many months of watching adverts.ie like a hawk :D

Bargains to be had, but when you see an opportunity you have to jump in quick.

I got an incredibly good 60's Seamaster date for under 300 10 years back, just needed a new glass and service, but a Seamaster 300 for under a grand is some find! Nice one!

Didn't take me long to figure out my next watch.

It's the Rolex Explorer II 16570 Polar

This is the only Rolex I would ever buy
