Was reading a piece about this recently. Whatever became of Gallagher, Marion Coyle and Rose Dugdale too?
Is that house in monastrevin still there and lived in I wonder?

Gallagher and Dugdale were married in prison and had one child. Coyle was released from prison in 1985 and Gallagher in 1990 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marion_Coyle . As for the house, it was in a terrace so I imagine it's still there and lived in.

There was a moving statue in a nearby grotto a few years later - the only two things to have ever happened in the town AFAIK.

Rose Gallagher was my English teacher in secondary School in the late 80s/early 90s. A lovely woman and was very open about her past.

Hold on there now, wasn't there a lad almost lynched there last year when a Facebook mob thought he was a paedophile. Monsterevin is a happening place

I was up and down on the train a couple of times during the siege and you could get a fine view of the army positions - all the vehicles were drawn up adjacent to the railway.

I had googled them but didn't find anything about what they're up to nowadays. Herema himself is 97 I think. They all keep very quiet.

I think he was on hte radio with Darcy or Tubbs last year.

Could be on the RTE archives.

I remember that too as a child. It was the first wall to wall coverage of an event RTE ever did. It replaced children's tv programmes on RTE Television for days.

I tried to locate the actual house in the estate on maps but ended up in some alleyway. The number also may have changed or not on the door in any event.

Came across as a true gentleman.
Never showed an ounce of resentment towards this country after his ordeal.
Forgave his captors, a true measure of the man.

That's so very sad. His wife only passed away about 10 days ago.

Both himself and his wife visited Ireland many times since and had an apartment in Dublin, I believe.

RIP, very brave couple with true strength of character.

Very strong couple.
