.. for sure the footage was thought provoking but I don't think it was the time or place for it..

Fully agree with this, I get what they trying to do but I nearly bailed when they started showing body bags dripping with blood and people wailing with grief over dead bodies

I came to listen to some cracking tunes, not to be depressed with that sh1te

I also found it ironic that they were promoting messages about security of data and reliance on mobile phones in a venue sponsored by a mobile phone network

This is a money making tour pure and simple using contrived political statements to appear edgy...which the band don't really give a ****e about anymore.

champagne socialists i think the term is

Incredulous at some of the comments. If it was a money grabbing tour, they would have just showed up & played what the masses wanted (i.e the "hits"). Can't believe they're getting criticised for making things a bit different and taking risks.

As for the term, champagne socialist, what a load of nonsense. Do you get paid for your work? Why shouldn't a band try to make money at the same time as touring an anniversary album? Suppose you expect them and Liz Fraser and Horace Andy to do it for free

What's risky about playing your most popular album?
And bands have been playing legacy gigs for years playing full albums. Not really that different.

Were you actually at the gig and have you been following this thread? Just curious

Nah, wasn't there.Thought about getting a ticket though. Been following the thread a bit, but not paying that much attention.
Most people who I know that went said it was amazing. Haven't heard a single complaint from them.
I saw them in the Olympia in 2010 or thereabouts. I knew it couldn't really top that gig.
Tried to see then in Nimes a couple of years ago but it didn't work out in the end.

That Olympia gig sounds like it was great, wish I had been there.

Maybe have a read back of the comments on the thread and you'll see that it wasn't a typical anniversary show and also the things they're being criticised for. I need to turn in :)

Thinking of getting a tshirt printed. Backprint only. Large letters. Short message. To be worn under a shirt and unveiled as required.

"Shut the **** up you ignorant cnut.
I paid to hear the band playing, not you babbling."

Great show, only diminished by the audience.

Wasn't at the gig but have seen them a couple of times and they're ok live. Some music just doesn't work as well live.

And the Three Arena is an awful venue when the seats aren't down. A wind tunnel of sound. Can't blame the band for that.
