    This is clearly very unfair.

Just because YOU have to use a different lane why should the tax office get more money?.

If this affected me I would be strongly objecting and getting on to the RSA and I suggest that this is what people do.

i agree totaly, i will mention this to somebody tomorrow,

None of the above affects me, apart from glazing but mine's ok on that point, but it's always good to see info straight from the horse's, mouth, so to speak.
    Well done.

if you drive your camper on the road on and after the1st march , you are required to have a current doe test and from that date, the tax wont renew your road tax without a pass cert

Interestingly my pass statements mentions GVW 3850kg, BUT my invoice says "carry out LGV test €70.86 +vat

My visit to the MTO for the cert. will be interesting.

My crystal ball tells me that your MTO will be a VERY interesting place on that day.

Don't forget to report back as we can't be there to enjoy it first hand!.

Sounds like you got a good result. Just have to sort out a bit of paperwork and bring it back to them, shouldn't be a charge for a re-test as they don't have to use any equipment.

Took my pass cert in to the MTO yesterday and treated myself to a cert of road worthiness for the first time. Never bothered before as it wasn't a legal requirement.

Lovely looking cert isn't it, well worth e6 of anybody's money:rolleyes:.

    Thanks

I'm going to do it in the next week or so in the same place I got the report done a few months ago. This will give me time to work on it for the retest (optimistic :P). Hopefully there is nothing major. fingers crossed.

Off topic slightly but you're the one to ask.

Am I correct in that the road tax for vehicles over 30 years old is now e52 ? and if so. does that apply to 'campers which already have a lower rate. My 'van is coming up to 28.

When I taxed it last year the lady at the text office said it would be eligible for the lower tax rate this year, so yes.

My tax is now out of date so I can't drive it on the public road.

I can't tax it until I DOE it but I can't drive to the test centre as I have no motor tax !!!!

How do I get around this - damned if I do, damned if I don't !!!!

Yes, they should all be marked. If you're sure it's not marked and doesn't look as if it's been replaced at sometime, my advice would be keep quiet, cross fingers and hope for the best.:)

In the U.K. you are allowed to drive it to a garage/test centre if you have an appointment, I would think the same applies here. If in doubt check with your local Garda station..

I asked them this when I was getting some forms stamped. He said if he stopped me and I had proof of an appointment it would be fine but it is at the discretion of the Guard.

What happens with a fail? Are you legally allowed drive to your mechanic to get it fixed?

I would think that the answers on the previous 2 post would apply unless the reason for the failure made it dangerous to drive. Just my opinion but the way I would act.

Thought the same myself. Show Guard the fail letter and explain you are going to get it fixed.

Hi all, my camper passed today, impressive cert  Anyhow as my camper weight is 3850kg there was issues about testing lanes/cost. Explained RSA states cost is on number of axels and not GVW, had my letter and an email from RSA explaining as letter said charged on axels and for tester to ring if they had issue with this. Managed to get charged correctly but please be aware that this is an problem as my tester has tested 6-7 campers this week already and has came across this a few times. Maybe there is plenty of people out there with camper GVW greater than what they think..ahhhhhhh

You also need a driving licience for a small truck or a bus to drive legally once the gvw is over 3500 kg

it is a converted van it is re registered and all for the last few years but this will be the first test. all the other windows have the relevant markings. havent had it tested yet but guy in DOE centre was giving me guidance on what to look for he said a glazing specialist could certify it if there was no markings some one like a coach builder he reckoned. any one know it this is true? and if so how much would that cost?

BTW can we not drive MH legally until we have it tested?

Yes a glazzier can give u a letter stating the standard of the safety glass. Price would depend on the individual doing it. A more underhanded solution to marks on the glass is to get a sign maker/graffics person to make up a transparent little sticker a copy of a safety mark and stick it to the inside of the windows.
And yes you cannot legally drive without a test.

there is a guy in the limerick area with a way of putting on an original safety mark, e40 per window you need done

I've got a very good contact at the RSA
Irishgoatman would you please ask your contact about no seatbelts in the back of a 86 camper? I've got none and I'd like to know the legal situation with having none in the back for passengers, Thanks.
