Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

Socket Question

    Hi just a quick question ,
    l thought l saw a blue flicker from socket when unplugging laptop the other day .

    I done something very stupid today and unscrewed the socket without turning the power off to check if the screws were tight inside.

    While checking if the live wire brass screw was tight the screwdriver hit off the chrome socket and there was a flash of sparks and the power tripped .

    Was that normal that the screw was live and the bang when the screwdriver touched the socket ?

    Or am l better of letting a professional have a look at it ?

    Pushed the trip switch in hall back up and the socket is working .

    What you described is a live to earth short with your screwdriver. It sounds like the tripswitch operated as it should have

    The original issue was perhaps unplugging under load or a dodgy contact in the socket itself.if the connections were tight at the back of the socket then a replacement socket may be advisable
