Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

    STATUS ORANGE

    Wind Warning for Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, Sligo, Clare, Cork and Kerry
    This evening and for a time tonight, storm Fionn will bring very strong westerly winds to Atlantic coastal counties with mean wind speeds of 65 to 80 km/h and gusts of up to 120 km/hr, strongest near coasts with a risk of flooding.

    Fairly wild and gusty in Kerry already, massive hail and rain showers sweeping through, winds picking up all morning . Looks like 3 nights of broken sleep in a row coming up.

    Gust of 74 knots at Mace Head @4pm. So that is a gust to 137kph!
    So Fionn going strictly by the Orange level wind warning = Storm naming was merited.

    Thanks, more or less guessed right. I saw the earlier posts, just didn't know his association with Irish weather.

    Well, I have the feeling that a red alert may be coming for Kerry, Limerick and Clare, possibly south Galway. M6 gusts above 65 knots are rare indeed. And recent gusts above 60 knots at Shannon also.

    Will be borderline red for sure until at least midnight.

    I am very interested in the next model run when they have the upper air data from Newfoundland and get a hold of the radar signature of the next storm, it really whipped across the Avalon at a high rate of speed. Currently the low appears to be around 150 miles east of St Johns NL.

    The 12z upper air charts have quite the jet stream across the central Atlantic and it is unusually strong at 250 mb near Ireland now, a bit further south than we normally see this feature. This is probably translating down to produce Fionn out of what is essentially just a westerly flow.

    I think this has brought the worst winds of the winter so far around here. Bushes etc round here (don't do trees very well) uprooted, fencing looking dodgy. Tried to go out to car a few minutes ago (it is in what I would class as in a sheltered spot) and had to give up. Liam Dutton can stick his opinions where the sun don't shine.
