Drogheda website says the won 4.5 - 1.5 so looks like 3 horse race again

Drogheda really aren't making things easy for themselves, are they?

No- but they were not in the least bit flexible when dealing with our A team before Christmas, so I for one hope they don’t get any rub if the green- what comes around goes around- so good luck to Benildus and Cavan!

We were given directions to the wrong venue in Drogheda when we played there! The address on the LCU page should be changed.... they stopped playing there 2 years ago apparently.....

Two games still to play, current score 1.5 to 2.5, Trinity ahead obviously.

St Benildus 3½-1½ Phibsboro. Final board next week.

So with three boards left in round 9, the best Cavan can do is match St Benildus' score and stay two points behind.

On the other hand, if we can win the final board, we're only a half point behind Drogheda

All of the Curragh home games can be found on https://www.chessspectator.com
There are 11 games available from yesterday between the Curraghs' Ennis and BEA matches against Rathmines

Skerries 4.5 - 1.5 Cavan-Surely our chance gone of contending for a promotion place. Two games still to be played against Trinners but we,ll have to get a result of biblical proportions against St Benildus on the last day if we are to advance.

Postponed a bit more. Should be played within a week.

    Phibsboro 2½-3½ Drogheda

Getting very tight at the top now.

    Drogheda 10-40 (Trinity)
    St Benildus 8.5-35 (Trinity, Cavan)
    Skerries 10-33 (Curragh)
    Cavan 9.4-32.5 (St Benildus)

Don't know if any results from the last two games in Cavan v Trinity? Either way, if Cavan and Benildus win the adjourned games, then a 5-1 win against Trinity (probably unlikely, but still) would seal promotion with a game to go and open a one-point lead on Drogheda into the last round. Not bad given we lost 5-1 to them on the opening day!

Edit - in fact, Drogheda now need just a half point to ensure promotion - either against Trinity on the final day, or for any of Cavan's remaining eight opponents. So congrats to them!

    Benildus 4 - 2 Phibsboro

Trinity 1½-3½ St Benildus. Final board to be played on Wednesday; postponed due to international selection.

Means we need one point from the last round to be promoted, while if we can win the final board on Wednesday, we'd go into the final round level on points with Drogheda at the top.

Trinity 1½-4½ St Benildus final score.

So both Drogheda and St. Benildus on 40......and promoted (barring Cavan winning all eight games left?)!
    Well Done.

Cavan could technically take 1½ off Trinity and then beat us 6-0, but effectively I think it's fair to say that Drogheda and Benildus are promoted.

Hopefully Trinity can do us a favour on the final day against Drogheda now! (Feel dirty saying that :p)

Apologies if I’ve missed a clarification earlier but wondering why there is no result posted for round 9 on chess league, Cavan vs Trinity. Anyone got any info?

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 7,125 Mod ✭✭✭✭cdeb

I believe the last two boards are still outstanding. It's 2.5-1.5 to Trinity still

Draw on one board and remaining game to be played soon.
