Welcome to the new and improved International Politics Sub Forum. This forum is specifically for the discussion of topics relating to the international politics. This replaces the old E.U. and U.S. fora, but is much broader in scope to include any non-Irish political issue. Northern Ireland is not, for the purposes of this sub-forum, international, so please keep them in the Politics (General) main forum.

To simply matters, you can take it that the Site T&C and Politics (General) Charter and standards apply in the exact same way to this sub forum. In brief, these are:
    1. High standards of debate and quality posts / threads are required. New threads require significant contribution, with citations or a logical and coherent argument. Replies require something that adds substance to the debate. A reasoned single line adds more than an incomprehensible ranting essay. However, a one line reply that is no more than a quip or asserition that doesnt advance the debate is beneath the standards. Repeating the same point over and over without engaging with other posters is not permitted. This is also not a suitable forum for ranting.

    2. Don't be rude, offensive, disruptive. Address the post not the poster. Stay on topic. Be courteous to other posters and do not personally abuse others. Attack the post not the man.

    3. Spam, porn, racism, sexism and other forms of discrimination will not be tolerated. Do not promote, advocate or support violence. Any breach of this rule will result in an immediate, and possibly permanent, ban.

    4. If you've a problem with a post, report it instead of responding in thread. Do not accuse others of trolling on thread.

    5. No discussion of moderation. If you need clarification of this Charter, or wish to discuss actions taken that pertain to violations, PM the moderator.

    6. To be helpful and polite, please provide a link to back up any statements when asked. Remember, this is not a newsdump, so if you are citing an article please include your own opinion in the post.

There are, however, a few sub-forum specific rules that you should take note of:
    1. Because of the restructure, some people who have been banned from US/EU Politics before have, due to a glitch in the matrix, been unbanned. If you fall into this category, you may think that it is a good time to reinvent yourself, take part and fly right. Or, you may decide that this is the perfect opportunity to go back to your old ways. If the former, you can consider yourself under a kind of unofficial amnesty - if we don't see you misbehaving then we probably won't reinstate the ban. If the latter, then you will be unceremoniously banned straight away, even if the indiscretion itself does not justify a permanent ban.

    2. This forum uses [TAGS] to indicate whether an issue is [U.S.] [E.U.] [U.K.] or [General] related.

    3. As this is an anonymous board, a person can say anything they like about themselves and it may or may not be true. A U.S. citizen might introduce themselves as such, or they may not wish that to be known. So while you can set out salient facts about yourself, please don't ask/accuse others of being something. This will be treated as a form of personal attack e.g. "Here's another Russian Government Schill" etc.

    4. Please be mindful that some posters will have very specific knowledge of certain areas that the average politically savvy poster will not have. We want debate that is enjoyable for both categories of poster. So, if you are an expert on E.U. chemical and ore trade relations with South America, please don't flaunt your superior knowledge to less knowledgeable posters. By the same token, if you aren't aware that relations between Israel and the Palestinian Authority are strained, please take the time to read up some articles/wikipedia before getting into the debate. Between these two extremes, a level of common sense is required.
