Charter for Bands and Musicians Community: Read, digest, or get banned (updated 1/11)

This is primarily a discussion forum for life in a band. Dealing with promotion, tips on promoting your gig, dealing with bandmate ego’s etc., are all for this forum.

General Charter


No musicians wanted/available ads here. Please put them in the Musicians Available or Wanted forum.

No pimping your band. If you write/perform your own original music, the band promotion forum is a good place to go.

No instruments for sale posts. Please use www.adverts.ie.

No advertising lessons. Please use www.adverts.ie.

No linking/requesting links to material you don’t hold the copyright for.

No offering bands pay to play gigs. (This includes minimum ticket selling, minimum audience turn-up or cash) Feel free to PM myself (Pappa Dolla), rcaz or Nervous Wreck if you’re unsure your event comes under this.

No flaming/baiting. Constructive criticism is generally welcome. No “Your band is rubbish” type posts.

No spamming.

No thread spoiling. If you don't have an interest in a thread, don’t post in it.

No duplicate threads. That includes cross posting fora.

Don't post your phone number. Please use the sites private message facility.

Don’t bump threads over a year old. Start a new one.

Commercial Interests

First off, if you are posting on behalf of a business (studio/producer/photographer etc) please email hello@boards.ie and request a verified account. People/businesses not doing this will be banned and their thread deleted instantly.

Studios may not start a thread advertising their services.

Studios may contact one of the moderators to have their details added to the Resources thread.

Verified accounts may respond to a genuine request about rates or opening times etc. For example, a general thread about studios in Dublin would mean that an account known to be associated with a studio should not respond but a thread requesting information about the specific studio would mean that an account known to be associated with a studio should respond.

Promoters
The bands and musicians community welcome all information regarding upcoming events and slots needed. We are pleased that organisers and other musically minded members see boards.ie as an important forum to communicate musical events.

However boards.ie has a responsibility to its members and cannot be seen to endorse any event that could potentially cause issue. Therefore, the following criteria must be met within the body of your post otherwise your thread will be deleted and you will be banned.

1: Who is running the event (Organisation/Society/Band)
2: The purpose of the event (Charity, Commercial, Battle of the bands etc.)
3: Date and Location of event
4: How many acts will be performing on the night
5: Is it over 18’s or an all ages gig
6: Type of night (Acoustic, full band, rock, etc.)
7: Cost of admission
8: Will a fee be paid, or will there be other benefits (Guest list, Free beverages etc.)

This list may seem long, but if you haven’t got the answers then there is a question mark over the professionalism of your event.

It is strongly suggested you do not look here for bands to play for free. Exposure, experience, promoting their work or sell merchandise are all excuses to get musicians to work for free. You wouldn’t work for free, so why should a musician? We would recommend you contribute towards petrol or at least offer a round or two to the band.

Failure to meet this charter will incur infractions and a ban.
