Solar security camera

Hi all,

We are just beginning a self build in Cork and have already had two break ins. One was stopped but one managed to get the load all started before being disturbed so we need to invest in a security system. Given my limited knowledge of this I was hoping someone could recommend a system (preferably solar powered) that accepts a SIM card so as to be able to send a notification, ideally some sort of a floodlight/alarm would be great. Not even sure if a kit like this exists so I’d really appreciate any recommendations on makes etc.

Anything I have ever bought that was solar powered didnt last for more then a few months. If it exists dont bother:cool:

We had this exact issue a few years back when building.
The camera was also handy to make sure builders turned up in the mornings :-)

We used a hikvision IP camera with a micro SD card.
4g router with a three SIM card
And a 12v leisure battery which I swapped out every couple of weeks.
Both the router and camera were 12v .

I put them in a plastic box and screwed it to a pole high enough out of harm's way.

Why bother asking a question that makes you seem a little dim, if you already knew the answer?

theyre rubbish like most of the solar stuff sold on ebay, lucky to get 3 months out of them and disaster in the winter time

Swann do a solar panel for connecting to one of their cctv cameras. I haven’t got one myself yet but they do look good and possibly ideal for what you want.

I can’t post a hyperlink but search for Swann.com and wireless systems, solar panels.

I’m using Reolink with solar panels and they work great.

Always between 90% and 100% charged even on a dull day.

They don’t meet the specs you need but the solar works fine.

I was going to recommend these, Arlo battery powered cameras with Vodafone sim card and service, but they look to be out of stuck:

Arlo cameras in general have a solar option:

Blink cameras are another option, they don't have solar, but claim to operate for up to 2 years off 2 x AA batteries. So might be fine to get you through a few months of a build.

You'll also need to put the hub on a battery and set up a SIM in a 4g router with battery for the above options.

Of course in the long term, powered cameras are a better choice.
