My batman Parnis has a ceramic bezel. Pretty decent watch for what it is. I have a few Parnis watches in the collection and have yet to get a bad one. Only problem I had is with the rolex knockoff glidelock clasp which is a little looser than I'd like.

99% sure only rolex do a genuine ceramic pepsi due to colour bleed qc issues, batman is additive so easy enough.

Other ceramic pepsi are blue with red paint or sapphired to fool.

Here's a question I often have wrt g-shocks. I always thought the awesome almost torch-like electroluminescent backlight of my very first g-shock 25 years ago was standard. But it ain't. Some of them have a poxy, feeble aul' micro-bulb-in-one-corner light, which frankly does little enough to illuminate most of the watch face.

-How do you know which watches have it and which don't?

It will say it in the spec sheet. They use funny or proprietary names so you just need to decipher it a bit.

There's only a few digital G-Shocks that use a front LED-bulb. GD-350 is one off the top of my head. Some actually prefer this to EL because it results in a higher-contrast display.

Most digital-only models have an EL backlight. Eg your basic DW-5600E

Some newer digital models have an LED backlight, which can be seen as the spiritual successor to EL. Different technology (and colour) but functions very similar. Eg the GMWB5000

Many analog or digi-analog models have just an LED bulb in the corner. Some use a UV LED which isn't seen by the eye but causes the lume to glow - very cool.

Some ana-digi models have a combination of front LED bulb with a backlit LCD display. Eg the new GA-2100

My GST 300 has both, subdials are backlit and there’s a led under the 9 marker illumination is very good.

It shares instructions with the 5444 module in gaw100 above so assume it has same backlight. Makes no mention of a difference in the instructions.

    https://casiowatchparts.com/manuals-2/5444-instruction/

Just had a quick look at video https://youtu.be/hBChHzsRv-A has both but front led is at 6 o’clock and as led displays are reversed they light up blue.

Indeed, they are essentially the same module with some slight differences.

GAW-100 has a front LED bulb to light the face and the LCD is separately LED-backlit.

If I had a criticism it's that the colour of the light is not particularly attractive. But it's plenty bright, the duration can be toggled and it can be activated by tilt-sensor if you want.

This is probably stupid question, but is it worth buying a watch with no movement, with the idea of replacing the movement myself / having it done? Spotted a nice Orient without a movement on ebay that I havent seen before, its about 60 euro. Would buying a movement and having it fitted be i) possible, and ii) worth it from a cost perspective?

Sourcing an exact or compatible movement can be a pain . But once you have one then it is a straightforward job for a jeweler or a competent diy'er.
However if no hands and dial come with the case then things get exponentially more complicated.

Are those the watches that you can't change the date order on - As in June 30th is 6.30 rather than 30.6?

I'm know I'm being pedantic but that wrecks my head if it can't be changed. ðŸ˜

Most Casio modules - incl the one in DW5600E - have only US date format.

A small number of modules have the option to switch between dd.mm and mm.dd. It's an oft-requested feature that they're slowly starting to implement.

No, not on those. I've a 5600 and it's a fantastic watch, but that's something that's always bugged me. I'm almost positive you can swap it on the modules in the metal squares. Only downside of course is the price. Hurry now, because there's a new titanium limited edition for the bargain price of 1500 euro. :pac:

It's a niggle for sure, and it should be trivial to implement. There was a thread about it here and it comes up constantly on dedicated watch forums or Casio forums.

I've had Casio digitals as a kid so I pretty much got used to it.

Full metal B5000 series definitely has option to show dd.mm. And the cheaper resin B5600 series (same module functionality as B5000).

A Seiko movement will fit, with the caseback details you can hunt the right seiko one, if you can buy a SII branded version as cheaper but same spec. orient hands are interchangeable with seiko. Probably need dial dots if swapping dials and you will have to pay attention to the diameter.

Not a lot of orient modding considering.

This is Casio's attempt to make a more affordable steel G-Shock square. It's got the bezel and larger buttons of the B5000. Basic module from a 5600 (non-solar, non-multiband). Resin case under the bezel, not a DLC-coated steel case like the B5000 series.

I went to buy that and then saw the full metal had 25% off too so went for it instead! Something to open on Christmas morning!

    I really like this one

Congrats, the full metal (B5000) is a stunner.
