Finding out birth date of deceased relative

Is there a way to find out what the date of birth is for a great grandparent. No one in the family has any paperwork on it. The person was born in the 1930s and died young. I looked into applying for a birth cert but this requires you to know the date of birth in the first place. Is there any database I can look up or apply to be looked at on my behalf to try and find out some information on this individual?
