Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

Destruction of Avoca Mines Heritage Site

    Wicklownews.net reports the destruction of a protected heritage site at the Avoca Mines , by Irish Rail, without proper planning permission.

    It seems the works are required as part of maintenance on the Rosslare rail line and are continuing over the holiday weekend on 24/7 basis.

    Seems to me they should have , at least, involved the Heritage Group before embarking on these works.

    Plenty of mining equipment which one day will be missed still rots away in the open at the entrance to ballymurtagh, there are some people with good intentions, but not enough community buy in - why would Irish Rail take note?

    Because, like everyone else, Irish Rail are or should be governed by planning law. It seems that heritage is often ignored much to our cost.
    Perhaps there is another explanation. I await to hear.
