    Hi,

    Has anyone else tried this official British army training guide in the Guardian

    do you fitness people think it a good plan? what kind of body shape, fitness etc would you have at the end of it?

    I am reasonbly fit, run every second day decent distance and ran the marathon a couple of years ago.

    but looking for new challenge and think that this 16 week fitness regime could be it?

    any observations about it?

    Seems like training to get into Dads Army...

    Seems very easy going, and all over the place too.

    First mention of chinups is week 11 and they expect 4 sets of 20!
    Then in week 16 is only 4 sets of 12. The dips look low too, but with a sudden jump in reps at one stage too

    Can't make head nor tail of it either to be honest! All over the place, no structure or rhyme nor reason to it at all. Looks pretty lightweight for the army - I don't get it.

    OP, I would focus on plenty of heavy weightlifting featuring compound exercises - rows, presses, pulls. Mix that up with some cardio sprints and throw in a little endurance work too if you fancy it. Frequency + intensity will get you results!

    +1 on what celeste said! Heavy weights and a decent dose of cardio will do it!Plenty of time on the rowing machine to build up your core cardio as this takes the edge off the muscle cramping you get when running. in saying that,if your running quite a lot as it is your probably laughing there anyway!
    As it happens how long do you/can you run for? And are you considering a military career?

    Don't be so sure. Even the US marines training is based mainly around an hour or so a day of basic calisthenics for the first while. It's enough to make a man fit enough to do his job.
