Hi guys, I have an LG65OLED and an old sound setup based on a SOny receiver and speakers STR-KS1100 5.1 SYSTEM. I ran traditional speaker cable under the floor boards 20 years ago when the house was built, so I can’t change that........
Was wondering what if any options I have? should I start with a receiver like the AVR2700 and upgrade speakers later? Or do I need a full retro fit. As said, I only have wiring for 5 speakers plus Sub and its 20 years old, basic speaker cable. I could probably run 2 additional lines at the front for Atmos speakers, just no ability to run cables to the back

What would you recommend? Would imagine that a sound bar will never be as good as individual speakers even if the cable might be a limiting factor for power? That said, I’m not looking for huge power output, I don’t play it that loud.

Appreciate any advice, this is my beg 2021 project

    Hi thanks for the post

Where you may have problems with the existing cable and speakers is in regards to the sub.  IIRC your existing system has a passive sub, meaning it is just driven directly from the amp.  This will not be compatible with modern av receivers , as they vall use active subs.  This means the sub has it's own amp built in and connects to the av receiver with a phono lead.

I would be looking to upgrade to something like the denon , monitor audio bundle we do

    https://euro.richersounds.ie/p-14201-denon-avrx2700-monitor-audio-mass-ii-5-1-black-speaker-bundle-av-receiver-with-5-1-sat-sub-speaker-package.aspx?swapstore=1.

In regards to a sounbar, while they have come on a long way recently, they still can not compete with a good 5.1 set up

    Hi Stephen,
Thanks again, I’ve hit a snag as the TV is on the wall and I have a cabinet underneath it, the current AVR Sky box etc reside on the floor under that and the problem is that there’s only a 120mm gap there so the Denon won’t fit from a height perspective.......
Do you have any lower profile AVRs? What would I be compromising on?
I don’t really have any other option as I have nowhere else to put it.......
    Thanks
    Eoin

    Hi Eoin,

your timing is good! Last year there were hardly any slimline options for AVR's - this year we have lots from Marantz and Pioneer - check them out here:

    Marantz NR1510
    https://www.richersounds.ie/p-204143-marantz-nr1510-black-av-receiver.aspx?swapstore=1

    Marantz NR1711:
    https://euro.richersounds.ie/p-204867-marantz-nr1711-black-dolby-atmos-av-receiver.aspx

    Pioneer VSXS520D
    https://euro.richersounds.ie/p-205070-pioneer-vsxs520d-black-av-receiver.aspx

    Onkyo TXL50
    https://www.richersounds.ie/p-202345-onkyo-txl50-black-av-receiver.aspx

On cabling from Atmos speakers - we now have plenty of options that will sit on your main speakers or even satellite speaker with integral Atmos up-firing speakers built in and likewise on your Subwoofer - we now have dedicated wireless modules from SVS or Monitor Audio that will allow you to site your subwoofer in the ideal position without having to worry about running cables.

    Hi John and crew,

I thought I had replied earlier but mustn’t have pressed post........
Looking at the options, looks like the 1711 is the most future proofed option, are you doing any deals with the aforementioned Monitors?
Also, can I use Atmos up speakers with those monitors as well or are they too small?
Finallly I’d need stands for frontal and back pair (don’t need centre)

Let me know what’s possible although probably looking at January at this stage
    Cheers,
    Eoin

    Hey Eoin.

Thanks for coming back to us.

The NR1711 is a fantastic receiver!!
I could offer the NR1711 with the Mass 5.1 for £1095 delivered.

You could use up firing speakers for Atmos but they would be a lot larger than the Mass Satellites.
The is usually the Eltax ATM's at £129 but they are currently out of stock.
    https://www.richersounds.ie/p-203576-eltax-monitor-atm-dolby-atmos-speakers-per-pair.aspx

Next up is the Elac Debut a4 priced at £199
    https://www.richersounds.ie/p-203404-elac-debut-a4-mk2-atmos-dolby-atmos-speakers-per-pair.aspx
I could offer these at £185

Stands for the Mass speakers would be Monitor Audio's own priced at £99 per pair
    https://www.richersounds.ie/p-203921-monitor-audio-mass-stands-black-per-pair.aspx
I could offer these at £80 per pair.

    Thanks Guys,

Could you quote me in Euro?
I noted there's a different exchange rate on the AVR vs the Speakers on your website that you might want to take a look at.

Just to be transparent with you, it's highly likely i'll wait until January at this stage unless there's some incentive to close the deal before the end of the year.
If i go with the monitors speakers,  will the atmos up-firing speakers actually sit on them? if not, any other neat speaker set?

And finally, as a matter of interest, is there a discernable difference using the Atmos up firing speakers? does it work well and is it really worth it?

    Thanks again,
    Eoin

Thanks for getting back to us!

The Euro price for the NR1711 with the Mass 5.1 would be 1245 euro.

None of the Atmos speakers will sit on the Mass as they are quite small satellite speakers. One way around this would be a shelf for the Atmos speakers or even a pair of B-Tech BT77 wall brackets to hold them up?

Let me know what you think!

    Kind regards

    David

    Thanks David,

I don't really have a shelf for them and id rather avoid connecting them to the wall, can they sit on the floor? or do the need to be at the sake height as the front speakers?

Might just go without them unless there's a better speaker package that you'd recommend that's also reasonably discrete?

€1245, is a big lift over the Denon 2700 plus same speaker set that you were offering earlier? is that including the stands?

On cabling from Atmos speakers - we now have plenty of options that will sit on your main speakers or even satellite speaker with integral Atmos up-firing speakers built in and likewise on your Subwoofer - we now have dedicated wireless modules from SVS or Monitor Audio that will allow you to site your subwoofer in the ideal position without having to worry about running cables.

    ATVB,

    John Mc & Crew

Thanks John, will have a look and get black to you
    No problem, keep us posted!

    Thanks again,
    Eoin
    Hi Eoin,

    Eoin
    Hi Eoin,

That wouldn't include the stands unfortunately but we have more movement on the price of the Denon than we do on the Marantz so the bundle price works out better with the Denon. We just don't have any of the 2700s in stock at the moment!

To be honest the Mass are one of the best discreet satellite systems as they are the smallest and the best sounding for the size!

Let me know what you think!

    Kind regards

    David

    Hi Mr Trebus.

I couldn't match the £579 Price as this was for an open box unit.
The ones that will be arriving in will all be brand new sealed.

I'll keep you posted on their ETA once I get it.
