After the dullest June since 1993 at Dublin Apt, July with 102.5 hrs was the third dullest July on record and dullest since 1986. August would need at least 139.0 hrs of sun to save it from being the dullest summer on record.

February this year, despite all the rain and shorter daylight, had slightly more sun than July with 103.3 hrs.

From the figures I have available, Cork seemed to fare best with 161.8 hrs provisionally which is close to average, though Johnstown Castle might have had more.

Monthly summary be available around Tuesday or Wednesday in anyway to confirm.

Confirmed that Cork fared best but with 163.8 hrs so practically average July for sunshine here whilst Gurteen and Belmullet had worst with 93 and 97 hrs respectively. Other low totals include D.A. shown above although summary states 104.2 hrs which does not add up to the daily totals and Malin Head's 106 hrs. It was the dullest July since 1986, 1998 or 2010 - depending on which station you take.

As for rain, Valentia had its wettest July since 2009 and one of its wettest on record with 214.0mm. Driest place was Roches Point with 73.2mm - a high minimum total for July. It was the wettest July generally since 2009 or 2010.

Temperatures were not exceptional despite the month being largely cooler than average with cooler Julys seen in 2011 and 2015 for example. Interesting stat despite its short station history, was 2.2C min on 20th at Mt Dillon, a July low record for the station.

Mean wind speeds were the highest for July since 1998 although many had no gale force gusts through the month. Cork Airport had its windiest July since 1980.

Knew it was windy. Our sunshine figures were way lower than Belmullet. About 80hours tops in Sligo and Id say the dullest July I can remember. It was proper dark a number of days especially first half of month.

Yesterday very windy and wet today just wet...its improving.:)

Confirmation that we got away with murder in Cork this month, with all figures bar the wind not too far above average for July. Hard to believe when you see it compared to other stations. Even the rain we got was mostly at night and there was only one wet day in the month. The bedraggled Japanese Maples in my garden are testament to the extent of the wind we experienced.

The band of rain has just cleared Cork City after a very wet and miserable morning and it's warm and muggy out now.

Hand drawn weather analysis map from the UK Met Office for that day. I reckon much of that rain fell during the evening as this is around the time the frontal zones really closed in on the SW:

Sorry for offtopic, anyone know what the U beside the L and the A beside the H in that map means?

Have a weather station?, why not join the Ireland Weather Network - http://irelandweather.eu/

Well that was easily one of the wetter days this summer, heavy rain for several hours earlier.
Still dark and overcast but looking at Sat24 it should be a nice evening yet.
Lots of fields with lying water in them.
18c out so mild compared to other wet days this summer.

Dry with good sunshine in Castlebar this afternoon. Not as bad as forecast and certainly was no need for yellow warning yesterday evening/overnight

Are you saying over 8" of rain fell in 24hrs?

OK we all knew July was bad but Sweet Jesus when you actually read the stats its shocking how bad it was.

My own station Dublin Airport has the dullest July in 34 years!!!

Rainfally was 176% above the LTA + mean temperature for onth was only 14.4 compared to long term average of 15.4. Oh it was also windy.

Did I complain a lot in July about weather. Too sure I did + its backed up by facts above.

We have been lucky in Dublin today in comparison to forecast.

It did rain for few hours but turned nice in afternoon + in fairness not cold again today.

That's one positive change for us so far in August that even if not sunny it is warmer.

I know not everywhere as lucky + has been miserable weather in some parts of country for last two days.

Looks to me like very strong winds/gusts yesterday if you look at stats.

Now I'd wouldn't be as familiar with wind warnings maybe Sryanbruen could have a look at data but should Met Eireann have given more warning for wind yesterday or was it the SW direction that made it feel at times like gale force?

Which of the models has performed most consistently this summer regards predicting rain? If any!!

Lovely afternoon and evening in Cork. At the beach from 4pm and a stunning sunset. Temps low 20s at peak though, nothing special

Sat outside all afternoon and just in now in Cork City. Very warm in the sun, mild enough tonight and just perfect evening! (Maybe a little less wind but will definitely take it!)

They on the verge of issuing a heatwave warning in the UK for the next 5 to 6 days, going to get into the 30's there over the next week, particularly the south-east and London.

Here we will get some low level warmth over the next few days so should be pleasant enough. Should be some nice sunny spells at times too particularly in southern in eastern areas. It will be wetter across the west and north at times but even there it should dry out from the weekend.

Most places should reach about 20C tomorrow, perhaps 21 or 22C in places that get nice sunny spells.

    fmiuk-41-25-0.png?05-19

Friday warmer again with temperatures pushing close to mid twenties in eastern areas.

    fmiuk-41-49-0.png?05-20

A risk of some thunderstorm activity on Friday in eastern areas with showers pushing eastwards into the warmth.

    45-505UK.GIF?05-18

Cooler over the weekend but temperatures still close to 20C and perhaps slightly warmer on Sunday.
