    I don't understand the point youre trying to make above.

    I work full time for a care company and also run a side business in the tourist sector (it's 50/50 whether we survive this year or not but I'm more optimistic after the recent government announcements)

    Anyway,thats me,now back to your three businesses?

    Can you not ask a questions, all ive herd here especially from a few people are very negative comments, putting obsticals up when tbere us none, thanks for reading through some comments i made before but tbat will not te yoy anything about what i do, any more questions

    @HBC08, if you do run a business part time then you should have an inkling for oppertunities when they arrise weather for you or not but you should be abld to see other oppertunities and do out business ans

    And delivery companies waste so much time do there deliveries, god, more obsticals, use your imagination, do the maths and you will find there is probable more profits for an individual do this than working in a salon,


    Delivery companies charge a delivery fee. So it's OK for the mobile barber to charge a delivery fee but not a covid fee in the salon that pays rent, rates, insurance etc?

    You really are just making this up as you go alone aren't you? Honestly I don't see you retitled by mid 40s. Unemployed maybe but not retired

    What nailer is taking about is someone on the dole doing nixers for cash. Obviously no one could pay commercial car insurance, business insurance, vat & taxes and still be cheaper than the salon. Hell you have to be paid for the travel time too. All other tradespeople charge 70 call out fee but nailer thinks hairdressers won't need to charge this fee. His barber is going to spend 30 minutes travelling to him and still charge less than a barber shop.

    maybe someone can educate me on women's hair dos. my experience is fairly thin on the ground.
    my local hair dresser is unisex. anytime i go in there are usually a few women in at various stages of renovation and various levels of scaffolding and form work being installed. she has a few women being worked on at time . im usually just sloted in when ever posible for a quick sheer and im gone.

    if you were to do one persons hair in their own home or even one at a time in a salon it would involve a lot of sitting around for stuff to work . surely the amount of customers dealt with must go down a lot

    I’m not a hair dresser but my understanding is they kind of move between clients. While your colour is developing they’ll move to someone else, and they will have different people wash/blowdry your hair and I’d imagine all this will need to stop in a salon after covid

    im a bit flipnt with my discription but thats what i mean. normally one hairdresser could do a few together but now its only one . turnover will be very badly effected

    I get extensions, highlights, treatment/toner and a cut and it would be pretty common for me to spend 6 hours sitting in the chair.
    Now obviously the hairdresser can do other customers while my highlights are developing etc but it still means I’m occupying a space for up to 6/7 hours, and with social distancing it’s not like they can put another client next to me and work on her hair while they’re waiting for mine to develop.

    If someone were to offer that kind of service as a mobile/from home type thing then they would only be able to see one or maybe 2 clients at a push per day, which I doubt would be worth their while in the long run.

    I don't think anyone seriously believes a sudden switch to mobile hairdressing is a realistic solution for most salons.

    if we take susie for an example. how much does her ordeal cost. 150 max so 25euro for each of the 6 hours not including materials. that doesnt cover the overheads of most businesses let alone a mobile one doing several visits to houses a day

    I make sure to have a big breakfast & I bring lots of snacks, they give free cereal bars/chocolate & tea, coffee and bottled water too in case you’re stuck.
    Get up every now and then to stretch the legs & get some air, and I bring my kindle too to pass the time.

    One time there was a scheduling issue and I was sat there for 9 and a half hours. I was ready to just shave it all off at the end of that :pac:

    Because the appointments take so long they can’t really see more than one client per chair per day (bar a Thursday when they do a 12hr day) and the price tag matches that.
    Now they’ll be expected to run at 30% of that capacity but with the same overheads and costs.
    It just isn’t sustainable long term, and going mobile would be even less so.

    Maybe 6 hour treatments won't be seen as viable then. Global colour and a cut sounds like the best balance between money made and time taken by a single client. Perhaps they will have to prioritise the more profitable services.

    A lot of salons, mine included, are extension specialist salons. They actually nearly outnumber regular salons these days, it’s such a popular service that almost all salons offer it in some capacity or other.
    If they were to stop doing that then they would lose a massive portion of their customer base and the demand for bonded extensions would get even bigger because there would be less availability.

    If my hairdresser said to me that I could only get my colour done and not my extensions when she reopens I wouldn’t take the appointment and would wait until she was in a position to give full service.
    She has a 12 week waiting list for when the salon opens and her books are closed for the remainder of the year, she isn’t taking on any new clients.

    I don’t really know what the answer is here. I think social distancing protocols are going to bury many businesses across all sectors, not just hairdressers.

    Yes, specialist extension salons will obviously keep doing extensions if they can keep afloat. I don't think it's true they outnumber ordinary hair salons though, not by a long way! Yes, salons dropping the service may lose some clients, but if they have to lose some anyway due to social distancing, then they will have to prioritise the most profitable services. Ordinary colour and cut is a far more popular service than extensions, so still a big client base there.

    there is a lot more to ppe than a box of disposable gloves.
    gowns for both people, perspex sheeting , stickers etc that have to be paid for, all that sanitiser and cleaning fluid used after each person
