Imported car, no V5

    I know you could register with just the export slip in the past as I saw someone do it but that was on the old vrt system not the new one which appears much more strict.

    You can VRT a car with either the V5c registration cert or a Permanent Certificate of Export. However the problem is that the DVLA are no longer issuing the Permanent Certificate of Export so if you land the car here without the V5c you won't have either and your in serious trouble.

    The DVLA will not send it to a parcel forwarding address afaik.

    I saw a company on Donedeal who specialise in retrieving V5 logbooks for people who have imported cars without one. They also done vehicle transport and were located in NI.. can’t seem to find the add now tho

    So transport company picked up car this morning and all the paperwork that was given was the green slip tear off called the V5C/2?
    Is that any use to an irish buyer?

    No need the full V5, No reference to emmissions on the slip you have

    There actually is a CO2 reference on the slip.

    Just rang the DVLA this morning to hear with my own ears and its exactly as people say.
    Thing that worried me was he said twice that I have to register it on "mainland UK" and by that i think he was trying to say don't be registering it up North but that can hardly be the case? Might call them back to confirm only it took 15mins to get through!!

    Found the add that was referenced above, looks a bit dodgy if you ask me!
    No phone number no details no who they are?

    Thats actually a different add then the one I was talking about.. the one I saw was from a transport company and seemed legit.. I’l keep an eye out and see if it gets posted again.

    Just an update for anybody still following this thread.
    I sent a V62 form from Ireland to the DVLA on the 8th of September using an address of a friend of mine in London and he received the V5 on Friday the 27th and popped it in the post to me yesterday.
    I didn't send off any £25 either as there is a box you tick if you have bought the car from an insurance company and the V5 cert has been destroyed.

    Hi jlow1, this seems like a lot more simple than some of the other solutions which advise to re register the car in the UK. Was your car marked as exported in their system do you know?

    No I don't think it was. I'm not sure what would happened when they receive a V62 then if the car had previously been down as exported. I would think the same process would apply but cant be sure.

    I'm in a similar dilemma, unfortunately my car was marked as exported and once this is done the DVLA won't entertain sending any forms anywhere as its outside the UK mainland and no longer their problem. Note UK mainland not including NI.

    I'm going the route of these guys. Hope its not a mistake and they actually do work.

    250 up front and 250 on delivery. Steep but cheaper than the excessive fines from VRT desk if you haven't got a V5.

    There was a very long thread on here a few years ago about importing a car. The thing is they say you need the actual form but for me all I had was a photocopy with everything on it. Unfortunately the vrt crowd didn't entertain it and said they needed the actual form. I tried re-registering the car to someone I knew in the UK but the DVLA said they wouldn't do it because the car was marked as exported, so I would have to bring it (with a log book) to a UK tax office to be imported again.

    In the end I spent 9 months chasing everyone and the insurance company here said if I don't register the car they wouldn't insure me. I compiled all my emails and phone calls into a report and emailed Irish revenue directly with my story. Thankfully they understood my position and someone in their department emailed the VRT crowd and told them to accept the documents I had. It was registered the next time I went to the vrt office a week or so later.

    €500 is mad money. EMK Transport only charge €150. I got a V5 from them a couple of years ago.

    I will look into that thanks. When you got the v5 I presume it was blank, as in the previous owners signature wasn’t on it as I presume it will need to be to register the car here?

    You don’t need any signatures. You don’t even need the page where you would sign it. All you need is the first page with the vehicle details.

    Hi there.

    In in the same situation as you were in. I am in Ireland trying to get a v5. I have the keeper slip. I'm going to use an address in London of my cousins. I'm thinking about ticking the box where you can say you haven't recieved the v5 yet after a sale. Do you think that would work? Did you actually buy the car from insurance company or just say that? Did you have a keeper slip?
