    Hey lads
I'm looking to get into home cinema sound (Atmos) for my main living room,. I've a fairly square living space roughly 14×17feet, flat ceiling.... with a door one side and double sliding doors the other side out to the back garden,
(Just a quick picture of what I'm working with)..

Any how, I'm looking for a 5.1.2 setup with the Atmos coming from two ceiling speakers.

With so many different options and prices in receivers and speakers Im just not sure where to start,as iv never had surround sound before...

I bought a 4k tv from you guys last year it's time I sorted the sound out.

Sound will be for all kinds( sport, movies, music ECT.)

I will need every thing receiver/speakers/cables ... And I'm hoping to have around 1000 Euro budget over the next couple of weeks...

What should I look at first as in spending more on? speakers or receiver or is it both need to be as good as each other?

Is there some boardie deals I should not pass on ? But either way I'll be purchasing with you guys and some help in chosing what's best for my needs would be greatly appreciated 😉

    Regards

    Tgs,

thanks for the post and apologies for the delay getting back to you!

Just so we can help and rather than recommend stuff that you may not be into - can you tell us what type of speakers you are looking at - can you take Bookshelf / floorstander style speakers or are you looking more towards a Satellite / Subwoofer package wall mounted ( as well as the 2 ceiling Atmos speakers of course!)

If you give me a steer on that we will tailor a package for you and apply some Boardie Deal pricing for you ;)

    Keep us posted,

    ATVB,

Hey John thanks for the reply...

I forgot to say.... I'm looking to wall mount ... As far as which speakers... I'm not so sure!...
I'm looking for very happy middle if possible... Crisp clean sound with some bass when possible ( subwoofer but doesn't need to be the hardest hitting... Don't want to keep the kids and neighbors away 😀 .

Have been really looking into the q acoustics 2010i lately but am afraid they might be to big when on the wall?

Some of the others like the satellites package look good but not sure if the sound is very good (sys2020/jbl/Canton/elac.)? The choice is just so big!

Then there's is the wharfedale dx1 se......in your opinion which is the better sounding of all them?

But yes all wall mounted and look nice...

    Regards

    Hi tgs,

The DX1 pack has finished and has now been replaced by the DX2 pack at £449. These are far superior to the DX1 both in sound and design however I can't find any information on whether they include wall brackets. The DX1 pack included brackets but I would need to open a set to check for certain.

Out of the speakers you mentioned I would go for either the Elac Cinema 5.1 speakers or the Wharfedale DX2 if you can stretch the budget a little further. These packs have incredible details and with the full range driver/tweeter design of the Wharfedales you will get a fuller sound than the likes of the JBL or Canton packs.

Let me know what you think.

    Kind regards

    David

The site still says the dx1 are still in stock?.... Or they in fact gone now?

I'm still looking around at reviews.... Unable to make my mind up at the moment...I'd really love to hear some of these in action to help with purchase....Ill take some more time to keep reviewing before hand....with a small budget at the moment I think I'm kinda limited,...

I've seen the Denon rx2400 constantly mentioned hear...is it really the be all in that price range?... Are any of the others worth a look at?

    Hi Tgs.

Yes the DX1 is 100% discontinued.

Not sure how its still listed on our site. I'll get it removed ASAP off of the site as not to cause any further confusion.

Regarding the AVRX2400, it really is the best receiver at its price point. 5 star reviewed in What HiFi.

If you went up a bit in price you could look at the Sony STRDN1080 priced at £460.00. Also 5 star reviewed in What Hifi and it was their product of the year.

Due to unforeseen circumstances i no longer have a stash to work with....

So I'm going to have to do it the hard way, build piece by piece, pair of speakers this week, in a couple of weeks add the another pair.... and so on until I'm finished..this way can't be helped I'm afraid! . after racking my brain...
I think I'm going to go with the monitor audio mr1 for back speakers ,mr2 for fronts, Mr center and so on, all monitor audio!!! Do these come with wall mounts/ brackets?

Is there any movement on the mr1's this week?

    Regards

    Hey Tgs.

Unfortunately the Mr speakers do not come with speaker mounts.

The Mr1's are still priced at £99.00

For a speaker bracket you could look at the BT77 priced at £34.95

Is there brackets available for the mr2 and center?

If there all bulky like the one you just showed me,I'll rethink speaker options again..

What do you suggest in the mr1 price range?

    Hi Tgs.

It seems they would be the only bracket that we would stock that would fit these bookshelf speakers both MR1 and MR2.
For a bracket for the centre you could look at the BTech BT15 priced at £19.95
    https://www.richersounds.com/btech-centre-speaker-mount.html

The only bookshelf speaker that has a bracket designed for it would be the Q Acoustics 3010 or 3020's priced at £19.95 per bracket.
    http://www.richersounds.ie/p-201533-3000wb.aspx

The 3010's would be the same price as the MR1's at £99.00

    Hi Tgs.

For me it would be a toss up.

The Q Acoustics might be a little more refined and detailed but the MR range a little more bass from them.

I use Monitor Audio's myself and have done for 14 years at this point.

    Hi Tgs.

The 3010 in white have a higher retail over the Graphite or Walnut finishes.

Normal finish retail for £99 but the Gloss finishes are £139.00.
We already have them reduced to £119 but they are meant to be in store only collections.
    http://www.richersounds.ie/p-201178-white-gloss-201178.aspx

We do have one pair of the 3010 in the white finish in stock but the other items in White would be special order.

Yeah I think the price difference for white doesn't do it justice in my opinion...

Have any of you guys used that bracket for the monitor audio... As I've kids , don't want a little bump of it and the speaker is on the ground...

I think the Q's look a little neater with a bracket made for it... But I think the the mr range is a newer speaker maybe better sounding drivers?..

I think my head is say the q A's FOR practically and my heart is saying the MR'S....

    Hi Tgs.

I have seen those brackets used on lots of different speakers. They clamp the speaker from the bottom and should not be that easy to knock out.

We started selling the MR range in 2014 and the 3000 Q acoustic series 2015.

The Q Acoustics would look neater as you say but its a tough call between the two sound wise.

Last question before I pick a model..... which av receiver would best suit each speaker? I read somewhere that certain receiver are best with different speakers.... Does this matter?

    Hi Tgs.

You could look at wither Denon AVRX2400 priced at £369.00
    http://www.richersounds.ie/p-13044-avrx2400.aspx

Or the Sony STRDN1080 priced at £460.00
    http://www.richersounds.ie/p-202643-strdn1080.aspx

Either of these would run both the Monitor Audios or the Q Acoustics with no issues.

    Hi TG,

You would be better paying in Euro as it's working out a good bit cheaper than the sterling price. Unfortunately I couldn't go any lower on the Euro price

Let me know what you think
