Fixed term posts in secondary

Has anyone noticed a high level of secondary fixed term posts advertised at the moment as opposed to RPT or even permanent (rare I know)?

I have two shortage subjects and there are plenty of fixed term posts available in both yet they don't seem to be covering illness, career break etc. Especially in new schools...

I'm just wondering how hours in a new, expanding school can be fixed term if they're not covering a specified absence...

All 1st and 2nd year contracts are fixed term. Usually from September 1st to August 31st.

So RPTs are being phased out in favour of fixed term? I'm confused.

Fixed term is the same as RPT as I understand, but fixed purpose is when your covering for a specific purpose like maternity leave, job share etc.

Hmmm I wonder why Fixed Term is being preferred?! Particularly for in demand subjects.
