It's not hugely surprising. My g-grandmother died at 82 or 66 depending on whether you believe the marriage or death cert.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,496 ✭✭✭crossman47

I agree its not surprising. I have an ancestor who aged 18 years in the ten years between Censuses. That was often before and after marriage! The one I quoted just seemed so extreme as to cast doubt on whether I had the right person.

Guys, please keep this thread for just deciphering the handwriting. By all means, open a new thread to discuss the ages.

I am local or just about.

I live about 5 miles away, and do be around there quite a bit. I was hoping my eyes are gone square and its a simple one :pac:

There are townlands called Connary Upper and Lower nearby. Would guess this is a misspelling. It looks like Connorree.

  • Registered Users Posts: 172 ✭✭clashburke

It does look like ee instead of an A when its pointed out. Ill go with that for now.

    Thanks

Hove? Or Hore. Look at the top of the snippet, but the Rs are slighty different in the rest of the image. Any chance of seeing the full page, please?

I'd say Hore - but please note we need to see the whole page. Link to it please.

    Where did you get it?

    I think its Hove.
Look at November, there's hardly any loop on the E off the V.
Everywhere else there is a loop on an E.

Yes, that last one would seal it as Hore for me.

    Oh that is fascinating!

There's a registry office marriage for this couple 6 weeks earlier. I had it figured for her as the Catholic and him as the COI - for lots of reasons.

Following on from my last one: looks like an adult baptism for the James Yore who married in the above.

Can anyone make out the comment please?
I think I can read it but don't want to bias other opinions.
