Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

    If races go ahead behind closed doors it will be some source of relief for some .
    They will be allowed to watch on tv and have a bet on a bookies app .
    Can't see many visiting galway unless pubs and restaurants and hotels are allowed to open by than .
    Its a long shot at the moment that these places will be allowed to open in July/ August .

    :( Favourite week of the year of many including myself, I go racing the 7 days and out 3 or 4 nights every year. Massively disappointed but it's not feasible this year.

    Also its going to be a serious serous blow for pretty much any business involved in hospitality etc. I think losing the races could be the difference between a lot of places going under and staying afloat.

    Its a monumental blow to Galway in fairness. Hopefully they do come up with something to do it in some capacity. How hotels and pubs will come out of this I don't know...

    Will be a big blow for bookies - a lot of young professionals would have a flutter in cash over race week but wouldn't use an app or website as it hangs around as a black mark for possible mortgage or loan applications.

    Any word on when they'll be refunding the Big Top gig tickets ? Have contacted GIAF on social media , but no response yet.

    Bookies could open with just a few people in them to just do a bet with cash .
    No screens on ... Just do your bet and leave .
    Your as well aware as I am ... That if a punter wants to get a bet on a horse they will by any means .

    They haven't cancelled yet. They're awaiting the next government advice at the end of the current restrictions in May.

    They released a statement yesterday saying they aren’t cancelling yet as the Big Top capacity is less than 5k. We were discussing it on the previous page.

    Puke fest or not it's an absolutely massive hit to the economy of the city. Therefore a very bad thing it's not happening albeit not unexpected.

    The city planners, organisers etc will have to be creative, innovative & forward thinking to thrive but somehow I imagine they’ll be whingy and look fir bailout

    Just came in to post the above but beaten to it!

    Will be a bit of craic at least, cans at home watching the racing and doing the betting online (which I often do on course too anyway for better odds/more places etc).
