Bus Eireann Driver totally out of order.

    Just a quick rant.
Before I continue. No I didn't report him or complain.

Couple of weeks ago on the 19:15 Dublin airport to Waterford route.

    Left 3 minutes early....
Flew into busaras, drove passed all the empty bus bays, parked at the exit barrier by the street.
    Got out, shouted "WATERFORD CARLOW"

Couple of people came running outside, and got onboard.
Other busses trying to exit stuck behind as he was blocking the exit. He got into a beeping match with one of the busses behind him who wanted to leave the depot.

Then upon leaving he got into a beeping match with pedestrians crossing the road.

Passing heuston some BE supervisor rang him. He picked up on loudspeaker. Says passengers complained the bus never arrived at busaras and they missed their bus.

Driver gets into an argument with supervisor. Says he pulled into bay 11, and its not my problem the passengers weren't paying attention. Said he announced his arrival, and collected approximately 30 passengers.

He actually did none of these things, and collected maybe 10 passengers max.
Tells the supervisor to go look at the tracking computer and that the people who complained are lying.

Supervisor rings back a few minutes later saying the passengers definitely claim you didn't park in the bays.
Fobs the supervisor off. Approaching Red Cow at this stage, tells his supervisor the passengers better meet him at Red Cow or tough luck.

Realistically this is impossible as 2 minutes later we departed Red Cow.

Supervisor apologises and says grand so, sorry for the hassle.

He then starts ranting to the passengers in the front seat that got on in red cow he was being accused of doing something he didn't do by some cúnts who werent paying attention

What the fúck like? Must have been in a hurry to get home or some shíte

Nope. My expectations are fairly low and I know them being on time is literally, impossible.
But never seen that kind of carry on before from what looked like a senior driver.

How hard is it to park in the bays ffs? Why block up the whole shop?

Was randomly looking at Boards and noticed the title of this thread. Not sure if I'm surprised or not that to see that you also mention the Dublin to Waterford service. My issue was also with the Dublin to Waterford service on Friday night gone and the attitude of the bus driver.

My experience doesn't sound anywhere near as bad as the incident you described but I was on the way to a family funeral so I didn't particularly appreciate the drivers ****ty attitude to me. Don't suppose the driver was an Irish guy in his 50's, grey beard? Just wondering if it's the same guy.

Sounds like him alright. Bit overweight maybe? my memory is a bit hazy.

Yeah actually, now that you mention it. Seemed like a big guy, couldn't really tell as he was sitting down but I did notice he had a bit of a belly. Anyway I'm going to fill out the Bus Eireann Complaint form, for all the good it will do!

Don't bother with the complaint form. I've PM'd you their direct email address.

Bus Eireann are a woefully unprofessional operation.

In my experience, I haven't found Bus Eireann to be that bad and most of their drivers are friendly and professional.

However, Busaras is a poorly designed, not fit for purpose mess, shoehorned into an architectural award-winning building. It would be difficult to come up with a more poorly designed building from an operational point of view but as long as it is architecturally pleasing to the cognoscenti.

Buses regularly block each other in as they try to enter/exit Busaras and how nobody has been killed during the "shunting" manoeuvres there is beyond me.

The ancient information boards/poor announcements/lack of seating and no sign of anybody in charge all add up to a fairly Third World experience.

Such a wonderful building that the Irish State considered it worthy of its own stamp in a series which included the Marino Casino and Cormac's Chapel on the Rock of Cashel.

    Ah here.

The poor man. Why should he have to wait for passengers who stupidly expect a bus to take off from it's specified location at a specified time?

People always annoying and harassing bus drivers. I remember people in my area complaining about some fella who used to just drive past the stop because he felt that his bus might be full (He shouldn't need to check should he? He is the expert). I mean the man is probably in a hurry to get home for his tea. The cheek of people expecting him to be stopping his bus or picking up passengers. Sure if he waits to pick them up, then he's just going to have to waste even more time to stop to let them off.

It suns up BE, firstly people in the real world wouldn't get away with speaking to there supervisors like that and supervisors would actually deal with the problem.

As to why I didn't report him. I usually would be the first person to report somebody, but at the time.
I just was wrecked and wanted to get home. Also, I'm a PS employee myself and I know how difficult it is to actually lose your job no matter how much of a shít employee you are.

Just felt defeated more than anything.

I've only ever experienced similar behaviour once or twice - one of those times was on Dublin Bus and the driver seemed to be annoyed when people wanted the bus to stop at bus stops, so they could get off the bus (which I find is a fairly important part of bus operations). He'd drive past the stop, and then when passengers politely informed him that they wanted the bus to stop, he'd brake quickly and let people off. This happened at several stops for some reason. And yes, the passengers did press the 'stop' button.

    ---

I can understand that sometimes the driver might be in a hurry to keep to timetables, but skipping the terminus in Dublin sounds like a bad idea.

    Cheeky bugger.

And the trade Unions would back his behaviour 100%. In a private company he'd be disciplined or maybe even fired for such intransigence.

he may and he may not be. you would be surprised what can go on within parts of the private sector. the private sector, is not all picture perfect with everything done correctly with no inefficientsies or lazy staff. just like the public sector doesn't waste every penny it gets, isn't full of nothing but inefficientsiees and lazy good for nothing staff. there is a middle ground within both and they both have their faults. but of course you know this.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who has had problems with Bus Eireann! Got a bus departing Busaras a while back, had the exact change, ticket machine in the bus, but the driver insisted I buy a ticket inside. I said there's only 2 minutes until departure time, will I make it alright. He said yeah no problem at all. Of course there was a queue but I was no more than 2/3 minutes. I walk out to see the bus leaving!! Ran after it just before it left Busaras and caught it. He then had the cheek to be annoyed at me for nearly missing it and for taking it so long!! I'll happily delay my trips to/from Dublin in favour of travelling with CityLink, and have been doing so in recent years.
