    from here:
    https://www.irishtimes.com/news/ireland/irish-news/new-state-agency-to-free-up-land-for-150-000-homes-over-20-years-1.3627335
Initially, some 30 zones in Dublin will be identified for “significant regeneration opportunities”
    ....
Among the Dublin city centre zones are... Broadstone... holdings by CIÉ, such as the rail works in Inchicore;... the North Dock of Dublin Port; East Wall ...

Great news for the CIE property division no doubt but hardly ideal to be closing or rationalising Inchicore in favour of some remote depot away from the bulk of rail activities in the capital.

There is a lot of underused and unused space in Inchicore. Empty sheds and surface parking among them. A rationalisation could occurr without reducing functions

Some of that unused space in Inchicore is being earmarked for the government agency I work for.

But whatever else happens at Inchicore we can't have a National Transport Museum on any part of the site or the Tommy Tighe/Fry Collection being put where it belongs.

Wonder what the impact on Dart Underground would be, presume(!) it's been taken into consideration.

Broadstone is huge, you dont realise until you are inside the perimeter, Donnybrook depot must be worth a fortune based on the RTE sale price.
Both prime real estate to build houses on, and Dublin need housing, both would bring serious money, pay to build new depots and many new buses, plug hole in pension plan, i think its only a matter of time before they are sold.

Where do you suggest that CIE relocate their depots to - Mullingar or Attymon?

Create a housing crisis and people get so angry they’ll tolerate any rezoning/sell off.

    The system works.

Plenty of space in Inchicore to keep both a working compound and for new housing. The bigger issue here is if the area can cope with such a large increase in population.

From what I've recently heard from a somebody who'd seen it the Fry Collection is literally only fit for the bin.
