Interesting fact - Bram Stoker was born and grew up very close to where Neil Jordan was raised & Neil Jordan's mam used to live on the same street Bram Stoker lived (I know coz my dad went to school with Jordan & my granny was his mam's neighbour!).

Another correction ; one of Westlife is also a dub, but you can keep him!

I know - Marino is very close to Raheny, where Niall Jordan grew up. Jordan's mam later moved to Marino Cresent, as did my granny, so they were neighbours for some time. I used to visit my gran with my dad every Sunday & we ran into Niall a few times - as my dad went to school with him, he was quite chatty when we saw him & he was the one who told me that Bram Stoker once lived there.

I never knew Jordan was born in Sligo though as he'd a strong Dublin accent.

Neil Jordan's Father was up until a short time ago, and may well still be teaching at the Rosses Point National School. Think he is or was also the Principle there to the best of my knowledge.

    We'll O'Hara isn't.

It wasn't that long ago that he would have been considered a fine footballer and quite well known!

    By some.

He's probably Sligo's best known gaelic footballer ever , to say he isnt well known at least in Irish sporting circles is stupid

Agreed. O'Hara is still well known amongst most Gaelic Football fans. Mention Sligo to a non-Sligo GAA fan and the first name that pops into his/her head will nearly always be that of O'Hara. That means that he fits the criteria of this list, IMO.

Apart from Aine (the saucy minx), he'd be the most famous (live) Sligonian I know of.

    I got a little sick.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,085 ✭✭✭Xiney

well, there's no need for that really...

    I got a little sick.
A Sligo team winning doesn't (and didn't) make me sick. It didn't in 1994 when the Rovers won the FAI Cup, First Division title & shield, nor when they won the League Cup or promotion a couple of seasons back. I'm a Rovers fan. I'm a Sligo GAA fan. This negativity strongly irks me and I'd ask you to please keep it out of this thread, at least.
