    Well they did say this
TV3 will launch two major entertainment co-productions; Sitting On A Fortune with Zodiak RDF, and Algorithm with Soshefeigh Media, both of which will be filmed in the TV3 Sony HD Studio.

But really whats the point if there not going to broadcast in HD

Seeing as its the only Irish commercial broadcaster what are they measuring their 'success' against?

    Ye olde City Channel :D

Wow. That was underwhelming! Don't you just love their definition of 'new talent' i.e. the same old faces just on TV3 rather than RTE!!

Yeah....tv3 has always aimed to produce quality homegrown programmed didn't u know! Utv won't be worried about that schedule nor will the majority of Irish viewers bother with most of it with the exception of the rugby.

TV3 are great, they don't try to shake me down for money every other week.

Yeah really isn't the best announcement. Nice to see David McWilliam's return to TV.

Also they now have extra 20% terrestrial coverage and a 2nd Channel terrestrially. They should be minting it :D

    According to - http://www.irishtimes.com/business/sectors/media-and-marketing/tv3-unveils-red-rock-harbour-town-soap-1.1786995

"The broadcaster said it was in talks with platform operators to carry a high-definition (HD) version of the channel ahead of the tournament."

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,986 ✭✭✭iseegirls

They're extending the News At 12.45 by 15 minutes, so it'll become the News At 12:30 now.

That might mean the end of Midday, unless they move it to 11:30am.

Hard to know though when that will come into place.

That same article says that TV3's soap is the first new Irish Soap since Fair City in 1989... Obviously the Irish Times Doesn't count Ros na Rún on TG4. The level of reporting in this country has really sunk to low levels. I don't blame TV3 for giving out Press releases. I do blame the likes of the Irish Times not doing any basic research.

If the statement TV3 made about HD is correct (and it may not be) That would mean that It'll be more than a year before we see any HD version of TV3.

Article today by Darragh McManus in the Irish Independent thats so awfully inaccurate you have to read it to believe it.. says the fly in the ointment is that UTV is owned by ITV...yes ITV which its not. The say's "is is right that its survival be jeopardised by the expansion of a foreign multinational. no offence to ITV but thats what it boils down to." Surely Darragh needs to go back to journalism school or at least check his facts better.

TV3 = Foreign, debt ridden, constantly bending and breaking rules on content, constantly making spurious claims about transmission costs and never fulfilled their Analogue Licence properly. Bailed out by Irish taxpayer.
UTV = Sort of Irish, not owned by ITV. Owns many Irish Radio stations.

    That news talk interview

TV3 18 years on the air

"We don't have the experience to produce a soap ourselves"

He desperately tries to avoid using the term "across the pond", realising that he's from across the pond and some of the writers are from across the pond, sad that neither RTÉ nor TV3 developed scriptwriters.

Also you'd have to question why TV3 haven't try to engage their audience in the last 5 months, yet are continuing to rely on coro st and emmers.

Wesley Burrowes? Didn't he write The Riordans and Glenroe? Does he not live here?

Wesley Burrowes did create the Argi-Trilogy of The Riordans, Bracken and Glenroe. He does live here, but he retired in the Mid-1990s. He is Irish. In general RTÉ and TV3 haven't developed scriptwriters over the years.

There's no way that they'll get rid of it. Cheap to make, It possibly even breaks even with all the sponsorship and advertorial. Plus if they get rid of it they lose at least a third of their Irish Output automatically.

  • Registered Users Posts: 32,417 ✭✭✭✭watty

"Ireland AM" should be banned by Regulator. It's a wall to wall scam. No chance they will drop it. Probably their most profitable program with those fake quizzes and virtually 100% product placement.

According to the Sunday Business Post

    1. Weekend and Late Night News Axed from Next Month
    2. Ireland AM returns to the 7 to 10 format
    3. Jeremy Kyle and some Children's Court Programme from the US from 10 to 11:30
    4. Midday starts at 11:30
    5. And the much more announced part The 12:45 becomes the much hipper and savvy The 12:30
