Looking at the rain month to date in different stations and something that caught my eye:

Galway (Athenry) has had more rain YTD than all of 2018, or all of 2016.

First time contributing here - I actually started to monitor the rainfall in August for Athenry after it seemed halfway through the month that it hadn't stopped raining - my location is very close by so it would be my local weather station. There was more rain in August 2019 than in any month since 2016 - that's just where the rainfall data started. And I can attest to it - there were very few days with no rain at all, and a lot of days with proper deluges for long periods. The anomaly is that the amounts were quite a lot worse than the next wettest station - Athenry had 297.3mm. Claremorris was next (I think) with 228.1mm.

To not be too off-topic - it's currently very blustery here (just outside Athenry) and has been all morning. Judging by the movement of the trees it seems south westerly. There was one pretty bad shower with it earlier on that lasted around 10 mins but other than that it's been dry enough. Sky does look full of rain though!
