I want to live in America

I know it has it's problems but it has a lot going for it. Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. So how do I go about becoming an American citizen?

If enough of us go we could set up our own gang. The Hillmans has a nice ring to it.

Too much work to even google it? Marriage does not bestow citizenship but MAY qualify for a green card. Look it up!

You can't become a US citizen unless you have first lived there legally for 5+ years. So you have to get a green card before you can live there legally. As someone who has lived there for several years I would advise against it. There are better places to live.

They do routine check ups on you to ensure you're actually married - regular home visits, correspondence address being used , evidence that you are not scamming the system. I know an american man who married a Chilean woman friend to get her card and he said the entire thing was an almighty pain in the bollocks for years.

If I wanted to look it up I wouldn't have asked on After Hours. Seriously though wouldn't be great to be American?

Most of europe has liberty and whatever 'pursuit of happiness' entails, which is surely subjective
Why pick america over even canada? They have very similar culture overall but with most of the bad bits of american culture ironed out, like political extremism, religious fanaticism and gun culture, more equal society

There are 100's of towns and small citys with populations 10k -200k .Places with zero crime, places where you still leave your door open.
    Not all down town Detroit.

    Short answer .
There are 4 ways to live and work legally in America.

    1. Company sponsors you to work there - they sort out VISA.
    2. Marry a US Citizen (no sham marriages)
    3. Invest a minimum sum (last I checked it was half a million dollars) in a US business that will create x no. of jobs there.
    4. Win the VISA lottery (think there is one every year) - its free to apply but it is a LOTTERY.

Also health insurance and education are very expensive. You're fcuked is you get sick over there unless you have a decent income and insurance plan.

(Not that Ireland is great in this respect)

Yes I suppose it's the most obvious way. Sounds like a lot of hassle. I have a friend living illegally over there. he is working inan Irish bar, no questions asked but he is not able to relax.

Where your only job prospects are Wallmart shelf stacker, TGIF burger server or Pabst Blue Ribbon beer slopper
