Introduce yizzer selves.....

    Post night-shift insomnia strikes again.....

I thought it might be a good idea to have an "introduce yourself" thread in here. It seems we have a lot of people with a lot of different skills and interests, and it would be good to know who everyone is.

    I'll get the ball rolling.

I'm Tallaght01. I've been trying to incorporate the word "yizzer" into my vocabulary again recently. It was my favourite word at school :P

I'm a doctor. A neonatology registrar to be precise. I'm from Tallaght, but I currently work in Glasgow. I love it there because I've a deep interest in public health/socio-economic determinants of health. Glasgow has possibly the most deprived communities in Europe. Not going to stay in hospital medicine for a lot longer though. Gonna work abroad again from next september. When my feet are less itchy I'm hopefully going to pursue a career in public health back in Ireland.

My main interests within medicine are:

    1) socio-ecomic determinants of health

    2) Health of fostered/adopted kids

    3) Epidemiology of infectious diseases (HIV in particular)

    4) The word "Yizzer"

    5) Oh, and neonatology :P

I also did a BSc in Biomedical sciences before I went to medical school, so like the nerdy science chat that goes on here sometimes too ;)

I'm r3nu4l (pronounced Renewal), BSc and PhD in Molecular Biology with particular interest in drug resistance mechanisms.

I did a 3 year post-doc to develop a novel immunodiagnostics assay before moving into the world of Medical communications where I project manage and write across a number of fields including endocrinology (Type 2 Diabetes in particular), Oncology (Breast Cancer in particular), GI disturbances, renal disturbance and dialysis, cardiovascular disease etc.

I'm mainly interested in the science of medicine.

I'm from Lucan but working in Cambridge :)

My name is InFront (no really, it is!) and I'm a wee medicine undergraduate who still doesn't know his olecranon from his coccyx. One day I hope to become a professional football player, but I might have designs on something in pharmacology if that doesn't work out, you know just as a back-up plan:)

    Hi,
I'm Jimoslimos, originally from Dublin but living in London now. Graduated couple of years ago with BSc double honours in Biology and Chemistry.

Working as a research assistant in the R+D department of a large multinational healthcare company. Major interests immunoassay development - particularly the application of novel tumour markers. Also like to keep informed on recent scientific developments and the general public's perception of.

Like my current job but would really like to go and do a research masters and perhaps a PhD in a few years. Not sure in what specific area though.

    Hola

My name is bigjim and I'm from Dublin. Someone else decided that he was also big jim, so I thought of the first thing that came into my head, so I settle with bigjimthefirst. Sounded funny at the time, honest.

As of 2 Mondays ago, I'm a final year medical student in UCD. I'm based in Vincent's, and I'm currently on my Psychiatry rotation. I will hopefully be graduating in May '08, and starting as an intern in July '08. At this stage I'm interested in doing Medicine long-term, and my current masterplan is to do gastroenterology. I'm sure this will change about 8000 times by the time I start my first job as a reg.

My name is John (who'd have thunk it!?!) and I'm currently doing a PhD in the psychology department in Maynooth on the neural basis of memory, particularly hippocampal and cortical areas related to spatial memory. I graduated with a B.A. Mod. in Neuroscience (a science degree but TCD don't do B. Sc.s). I'm particularly interested in memory (hence the research), neurotrophins and neuropharmacology, especially antidepressants. I'm also interested in psychoacoustics (how the mind perceives sound) and the neuroscience of aesthetics but I'm very much a beginner in these areas.

I'm a chunky monkey HCA. Had an interview in Exeter for medicine on Wednesday. If I get an offer I'm going to decline it. I've wanted to go to RCSI since I was in primary school. Am I being stupid in risking it? Probably but I think totally worth it :)

hey! you're one of our GEMs them? :D It must be pretty hectic for you guys with so much to cover in each semester, thought we had it pretty bad! ;) I'm in first med (undergraduate.. thought I'd be doing premed as I mentioned here, but it seems that having 2 or more sciences lets you go right into first year.. which is great, until you realise that it's January 6th and you've got very little done for the exams in a week's time.. :( )
