Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

    169 cases already in the Republic, 45 in the North (up to 15 March). I fully expect temperatures to rise further (and if they do, call a doctor!) but would request everyone pays attention to the mod warnings carried over from earlier threads and set out below. In particular please remain civil to each other

    I understand people can get very emotional about this sort of thing. Regardless of that there is no reason this cannot be discussed in a civil manner. Yes there are people implying there is little to worry about. Equally there are some doom and gloom merchants in the thread. Despite appearances I actually think most posters are probably somewhere in the middle recognising this is serious, but at this stage not overly so in Ireland

    I just have to vent my frustration here for a sec.

    My nephew has been waiting for heart surgery since this time last year. His surgery has been due to go ahead and has been cancelled on the day many times. My mother, drives four hours to look after their other kids each time the surgery has been scheduled. The surgery is due to happen this week.

    I just know that it's going to be cancelled and I've been begging my mother not to go up for fear one of them will give the virus to her. They're in a major, major hot-spot.

    I offered to go in her place, but she's so stubborn and my sister is just completely demented from worry so it's a fraught situation. I'm going to put my foot down. I'll set fire to the feckin house if it comes to it. That would potentially result in less collateral damage.

    I posted this last night but i think it was lost but is it not odd that only 20% on the princess cruise tested postive even though more than likely more than 80% to 90% should have been. It was rampant on it.

    I think the Republic of Ireland as a society are really taking this seriously overall. I just wish the idiots dictating policy to NI would change their approach as it will affect us here in the South. Maybe.

    Austria has banned gatherings of more than 5 people. This is a good idea and will help them slow the spread.

    It would be hard to police but we should all voluntarily commit to something similar in Ireland to help slow the spread and relieve pressure on health services.
