This is a shocking thread. Incredibly extreme views on both sides.

What happened today was an outrage. Trump has blood on his hands. No justification for this slaughter.

Not does it justify similar extreme actions on the Palestinian side. They know how to play dirty too.

Peace will only come with understanding and dialog.

If you think that the Israelis are at all interested in understanding and dialogue you are displaying a naivety about the situation. Israel had been pretty successful in portraying it as being deeply complex and quite an evenly matched conflict. Strip away the propaganda and it is a nasty land grab which has necessitated the brutal treatment of those that happened to already residing there. The end game will be total and sole occupation but if you gaze for long into an abyss, the abyss gazes also into you.

To the lovers of the state of Israel on here, a question.

What threat did Abu Thurayeh pose to result in him being shot dead by an Israeli sniper? Abu Thurayeh, a double leg amputee. For the audacity to wave a Palestinian flag?

Nope, he was using a slingshot.

    https://www.rte.ie/news/2018/0514/963336-us-embassy-jerusalem/
The Palestinians killed include at least six children, a medic and a man in a wheelchair who had been pictured on social media using a slingshot.

It makes great propaganda for Hamas, but that is what it is, propaganda.

Ah OK, should have used a tank to kill that sling shot using amputee..... Just to make sure no israelis were hurt by his vicious weapon

It's time to expel the Israeli ambassador.

The least we can do to show some solidarity with the Palestinian people.

Its time to close down the entire Israeli diplomatic mission and expel them , full stop and send them packing back home? Arrogant , rude and demanding .

Its a horrible looking Embassy anyway and no other tenant will rent out the other floors.

if you are going to comment on this thread, please check your facts!

Abu Thurayeh was killed last December!

Not that using a slingshot would in anyway justify being killed in cold blood.

To the OP, Israel does not want to wipe out the Palestinians. Remember, they left Gaza in 2005 where as Hamas took over in a brutal bout of violence. We are still waiting for 'elections' there.

Israel does have the capacity to wipe out the Palestinians but the population is still growing, hardly an indication of wanting to wipe someone out now is it. However, Hamas and others like it have been pretty clear on their views. They deny the Holocaust from happening but state that they will carry it out for real. In other words, they want to wipe out and kill every Jew in Israel.

This is part of their charter.
The Day of Judgment will not come until Muslims fight the Jews, when the Jew will hide behind stones and trees. The stones and trees will say, 'O Muslim, O servant of God, there is a Jew behind me, come and kill him.' Only the Gharkad tree would not do that, because it is one of the trees of the Jews.

    A great bunch of lads.

Last time I checked, IDF are doing the killing. The world sees this for what it is, a massacre, a bloodbath. Victim blaming is not working here, people are not stupid. Israel are committing war crimes and the world can see this for what it is..

No, the Israelis murdered him. The Oxford Dictionary could do worse than check this thread for new definitions of obtuse.

This is why they target journalists, they don't want the world to see them for the war criminals that they are.

Well I wonder why? They have every reason to hate the Israelis and those that support Israel and defend and support their crimes. What would you do if you were in the Palestinians position?

Yeah and many people's and many nations have hated each other over the course of human history.

The way they are going about things is literally not going to get them anywhere.

They need to cease all violence and aggression to Israel and just start honest peaceful diplomacy.

Mightn't get them fook all in the next 10 years but at least people will stop dying.

It's the Israelis doing all the killing. They are the aggressors, the Palastinian people are entitled to resist the illegal occupation and colonisation of their land.

I really doubt that no one would die, Israel want all the land and they'll make up an excuse to kill.
Do you think they will stop the illegal land grabs?
    I don't think so.

I'm disgusted and very disappointed by some of the pro Israel posts on here, it feels like some people think slaughtering innocent people is ok. since 2005 in this conflict only 1 in 23 of the deaths have been on the Israeli side and looking at the map changes over the years Israel are very clearly continuing to steal more and more Palastinian land.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,430 ✭✭✭RustyNut

    And your solution is?

If the zionists stopped illegally occupying other people's land and stopped killing innocent people that would be a positive start.

    And your solution is?

Cease the theft of Palestinian lands, return to 67 borders, compensate refugees for loss, give equal rights to Palestinians residing within Israel, lift blockades. Act like humans

The optics were really awful for Israel and Trump today. There was the footage of Netanyahu and Jared and Ivanka celebrating an unnecessary and provocative embassy move and at the same time thousands of Palestinians getting shot at, injured and murdered.

"Do Israel want to wipe out the Palestinians?"

If you look at map changes, the answer can only be a yes. They may not want to do it brutally, but it is what they want.

I've been less disgusted by South Africans defending Apartheid as "not that bad".

"Israel has a right to defend it's borders"

What borders? It has never declared it's borders. There's is no border, there are armistice lines, which are protected by buffer zones that are several hundred meters deep on both sides, the protesters weren't even breaching the buffer zones, never mind the armistice lines.

In 1649 Cromwell came to Ireland with the intention of solving the Irish "problem" once and for all with a policy of "to hell or to Connacht".

the fundamentalist Zionist lunatics who rule the state of Israeli share Cromwell's vision but want the complete removal of Palestinians from their lands, in their mind there isn't even a Connacht the Palestinians can have, they just want them gone whether it's through actively driving them from their land or making their living conditions so bad they leave by choice.

The current psychopath who rules Israel has said dozens of times "there will never be a Palestinian state".

The Palestinian national council accepted the Israeli state in 1988 and again in 1993. Hamas has accepted a 2 state solution and agreed to negotiate the same, the PA has accepted that the 1967 armistice lines will have to be amended slightly to make them more manageable with like for like land swaps. The entire Arab league has had an offer on the table, supported by all Palestinian parties and the international community for over a decade which would provide for a two state solution.

The only side who do not want a two state solution is Israel.
    That's why they won't negotiate.
    That's why they murdered Rabin.
That's why when his murderer was released he was treated as a hero by the Israeli right.
That's why the Israeli military threatened a coup when Ehud Barak and his foreign minister Ben-Ami were close to an agreement during the summit in Taba in 2001.
That's why 75% of Israeli voters polled in the 2001 election cycle said Barak was "giving too much away" by agreeing to the dismantlement of settlements and withdraw from Palestine to within the 1967 armistice lines despite even the Israeli government at the time admitting that it was the Palestinians who made almost all concessions during the negotiations.

Israel does not want a two state solution, they want a final solution to the Palestinian "problem" but instead of "to hell or to Connacht" it's just to hell.

In Ireland at least you come across very few people who actually support Israel, the majority of people instinctively support the Palestinians due to Irish people being familiar with this type of repression in the past. Usually the only ones you hear espousing support for this type of thing are neckbeard internet politico types.

Or bought and paid shills for the Embassy in Dublin like Barry Williams and his acolytes in Israeli foreign ministry sponsored on campus groups like Mayooth's "Israel soc".

. Apartheid Israel has brought barbaric treatment to a whole new level
Israel is not an Apartheid County.
Arab Israeli citizens live there in peace with the same rights.
    Israel's parliament have Arab members.
There are Arab Judges in their Courts.
Now compare that to Islamic Countries.

There are two seperate systems of justice in the occupied territories - one is for the settlers, the other the palestinians. There are settler only roads and areas.
