Bellator/WSOF/One FC etc events Thread

Jesus, Frank Mir, please, please hang up the gloves now. You got a win, just retire. Big Country's way, way past his prime as well, either guy wouldn't stand a chance against even a vaguely competent fighter even in Bellator. Mir has looked like he's fighting through syrup his last few fights, his only vague hope of a win is fighting the lowest of the has-been's. Don't pull a BJ Penn.

Slightly embarrasing!. CageWarriors 110 Chris Fields leads his fighter Omran Chabaan out and Fields and corner team take their seats a bit early just as their fighter is about to go through the pat down. At this point Chabaan realises he hasnt his gum shield and needs to go over and tap Fields on the shoulder to make him aware!. Fields is shocked and legs it back to the dressing room for the gum shield!.

Yeah that steam only ever plays replays, you never get live cards on it. I've been trying to get the cage Warriors card myself with no joy.

There were some good wins for a few of the Irish lads on Cage Warriors last night. PA Lahane on the amateur undercard, John Mitchell in his pro debut on the main card, Ian Garry to go 3 and 0 with a first round sub and Rhys McKee with a first round TKO off of a jab which floored his opponent!

Ian Garry is trying to push for a spot on the London card in 2 weeks time of anyone drops out.

I'd like to see Rhys get another couple of wins under his belt before there is any talk of moving to the UFC. I'd be surprised if they don't pick him up the next time they have a show this side of Europe.

Ian Garry is a superstar in the making. The atmosphere in the arena for his fight was insane. And a lovely finish from him too.

Really enjoyable night, Cage Warriors had the place looking as well as they could, great atmosphere and great fights. Hopefully they're back in the summer.

I take it you were at it?

They've just announced 3 more Irish dates. Back in Cork in July and Belfast in May and September.

It's still early days yet, he only has 3 pro fights. There are tougher tests ahead with CW and if he keeps progressing as he has done to date then he will definitely be UFC bound alright.

What the story with the hype behind this guy after only 3 fights?
Genuinely curious, I haven't seen him fight yet.

That's kinda what prompted my question tbh.
He could well be UFC material in a few years, but he obviously isn't near that level now. Not a dig in the slightest, just the reality of being a fresh pro. No way on knowing how much or how little he'll improve. But "hype" about him now will do more harm that good imo.

After Crosbie and McKee I'd say he's Ireland's most promising pro fighter. He's still young though, lots to learn, lots to go wrong, but there is definite potential here.

Undoubted potential yeah. But I just kind of squirm when I hear Tom King and Chris Fields heap so much praise on him, when he's still only a baby. This kind of traction just adds more pressure on him and he becomes a serious target, and if he does stutter on the way up (as most do), the unecessary fallout is a much bigger deal.

There's nothing wrong with setting yourself targets and goals and speaking them aloud. What's the point in pretending the UFC is not a target? Anyone who ever steps into that cage has the dream of fighting in the UFC.

Everyone (most people) thinks pressure and nerves are negative debilitating factors that should be avoided. If you accept those feelings and emotions as part of life and understand how they effect you, they can become positive factors and facilitate someone in achieving their goals.

Probably more that SBG know they're not UFC caliber, Kiefer is probably the best prospect at the mo, maybe Queally as well.

The SBG guys are in Belator because they aren’t currently good enough for the UFC.
Same reason that the lads in cage warriors aren’t good enough. Getting signed by the UFC has very little to do with wanting to be there.

Not a hope of the UFC he's 30 and a cage legacy level fighter. He's tough but that's about it. They did the experiment of Conor's buddy in the UFC with Ward and he was a disaster.

I agree with you that he’s not good enough for the UFC. But a few posts ago you were criticising them for “middling it in Belator”. A bit contradictory.
