Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

    It's not what they are making, i's what they are asking and sometimes this bears no relation to it's true value. Rarer classic cars can be notorious for speculation and for people chancing their arm to get as much as possible - which they are perfectly entitled to do - but it doesn't mean they'll get it.

    The UK reg one for €14,000 has no MOT since 2017 and will possibly cost a lot more than €200 to get an Irish reg plate on it, so it's nowhere near €14,000.

    The Irish one is the more desirable one of the two if it checks out. Irish reg from new, valid MOT, €56 tax from May, and it looks to be in good condition.

    They start at £6-8,000 in the UK with MOT's, but there's plenty of people there asking £14K and above. In Germany they start at €12,000 for ones with a valid TUV. So those ones above could be regarded as 'overpriced'. You need to look around a lot before buying one. From having had one (a 1.6 Gti) back in the day and having driven a 1.9 a lot back then, the 1.6 is the better car, not as frantic as the 1.9 and better balanced.

    But the bragging rights of a 1.9 and it being the top of the range will always make it the more desirable classic car. Theres no way someone will drive a 205gti on the road today as hard as they were driven back in the day . Different times.
