IPL 2020

At last IPL 2020 is underway in UAE and it started off with 2 fantastic matches.

Mumbai lost their first match...again! But only after Dhoni with 42 needed off 24 promoted Jadeja and Sam Curran ahead of himself and Jadhav and between them scored 28 off 11 which effectively sealed the deal for Chennai.

Todays match Delhi vs Punjab went to super over! Very topsy turvey. Stoinis plundered Jordan's final over which went for 30 runs and then defended 13 bowling the final which went 6 2 4 . W W with the final wicket being non other than Jordan!

I suppose it can only go downhill from here...

Tomorrow is Sunrisers vs RCB. Warner and Jonny Bairstow should be fun to watch again.

Rabada the hero for Delhi today. Of course if the umpire did his job right, there wouldn't have been a super over. Called Jordan short on a run and it wasn't. Why is there a limit on how many can bat in a super over? Bit silly looking today with only three runs needed.

Yesterday was enjoyable too. Faf had a good game. Sam Curran 18 off 6 balls made the chase very comfortable.

    RCBs wickets so far.
Warner - Run Out with a deflection of the bowlers hand.
Garg - ball about a meter wide, hits ball off himself, goes towards the wicket and unlodges the bails.
Sharma - Run Out after colliding with Rashid Khan

Chahal with the other 3. Bowled very well.

Off goes a concussed Rashid Khan and on hobbles Mitch Marsh who was injured during bowling :pac:

Bairstow will be the scapegoat but the rest of them should have seen it home. Shambolic effort. Williamson will be playing before long, they will have to find Marsh's overs somewhere.

Pat Cummins was battered today. 49 off 3 overs. He just kept on bowling line and length, there was no variation. He cost 3.1m in the draft.

Top bowler but I don't see a t20 bowler in him.

RCB were terrible yesterday, CSK v DC should be a good game today.

Cummins a lot better today. Economical and took the big wicket of Jonny Bairstow. Gill and Morgan were very impressive knocking off the runs.

Oh well, give me an easy life and a peaceful death.

2 phenomenal games in 2 days.

Rajasthan well beaten today. Archer was excellent and Tom Curran made it a bit respectable at the end with a nice 50. KKR look a good side, Gill and Morgan batted well again. Mavi finished with great figures 2-20 off his four overs. Banton in for Narine can't be far away.

Prime Dhoni would have won that game. Sad to watch him struggle like that. A lot of mistimed weak shots and looked so exhausted at the end.

That's 4 Not Outs for Dhoni out of 4. 3 of them in Run Chases where they waited until too late for the aggression. The stats look good for him. Strike rate decent, average perfect. But the performances have been baffling.

Baffling is the way to describe Dhoni's batting lately. I do think he tried today, just couldn't connect cleanly. And to make it worse, his mistimes went for twos so he kept Sam Curran off strike. Jadeja needed to press go earlier knowing Bravo and Curran were there. It was at a standstill at both ends for a good while.

Ashwin with the mankad again, at least this time it was only a warning. I think it's cowardly and ugly. Can't look at Ashwin after the way he dismissed Buttler. Kohli is in now, bet he won't try it with him.

Another weird one for CSK yesterday. Were looking good for a good while got it to needing 39 of 19 but managed to come up 10 runs short.

Big Shout out to Kedar Jadhav with his plucky 7 off 12 balls, whilst Ravi Jadeja was down the other end hitting 21 off 8.

Some of CSKs performances are becoming quite questionable.

The important thing for me with CSK is how Sam Curran does. They must drive their fans mad.

Today's game was about the Sunriser's openers firing. Bairstow deserved a hundred but 97 will do. Rashid Khan did brilliantly then. Pooran played a blinder too, but they now look a side running out of ideas and look low in confidence.

    Rajasthan Royals just brutal.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,205 ✭✭✭Gillespy

They deserve today for dropping Tom Curran.

Delhi are the best team in it this year.

CSK made light work of losing that game. 17 needed off the last over, thanks to a great 19th over by Sam Curran. Jadeja was given the job to bowl it and Axer Patel finished it quickly. Turns out Bravo wasn't fit to bowl but the left arm spinner?

A double super over in the Kings XI v Mumbai game. Never seen this before :D

Big drop off in the quality of bowling second time around. Bumrah and Shami only giving five runs was excellent. Trend Boult was poor in the game but I suppose you have to back him to do it in the super over. Agarwal and Gayle only needed half his over to get the runs.

Shikhar Dawhan has made 106* today but the Delhi all stars XI have only made 164-5 vs the Punjab XI super all stars selection, in todays exciting IPL sponsored by Slogwithaheavybat.com. For all your slogging needs. Some players stealing a living from this game.

Not sure I agree. I mean some are but bowling is of a very high quality, fielding is excellent and pitches are getting slow. Dhawan is a class player, done it for India for years and is in great form, two hundreds in two games now, first in IPL history.

Bottom teams beating the top teams lately, a lot of one sided games last week but CSK are gone despite a fine win today. Brilliant hundred by Stokes keeping Rajasthan alive. It's all getting very tight to make the playoffs. Tomorrow it's Morgan vs KL. Usually always root for Morgan's team but I like Kings this year too. It really is true that anyone can beat anyone on their day in the IPL. Pure guesswork picking a winner this year.

Henry Gayle showing he is still worth a place

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,727 ✭✭✭✭Inquitus

Rajasthan Royals could still sneak into 4th spot here! Easy win over KXIP today!

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,205 ✭✭✭Gillespy

It's all very tight. RR would be much better positioned in the table if they had Stokes in this form for the whole tournament. Bowling has improved every game and looks back to his best with the bat. Other than Archer, they have been too inconsistent. If they could sneak into the playoffs, I would fancy them. The other sides are all over the place at the moment.

They got off to good starts with the ball in almost every match thanks to Archer but just seemed incapable of doing anything with them, with Stokes the whole way through he might have made the difference but it felt like they were still a bowler short too often.

No doubt short in the bowling. Tyagi wasn't bad and Tewatia was good too. No consistency with the bat at all. On paper as good as anyone, Robin, Samson, Tewatia along with the big overseas stars. And Smith is copping a lot for his captaincy too.

So, last place to be decided today. MI vs SRH. SRH win will be enough for them and that knocks KKR out. Hoping MI play a full team and do KKR a favour.

SRH win today to make it into the final 4, having won 4 out of 5 of their last 5 matches. MI v DC, loser plays the winner of SRH v RCB, winner of that goes into the final against the winner of the 1st game.
