Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

Watching downloaded Netflix on Phone/TV

    Help needed! I've just downloaded a Netflix show to my Android phone and I was hoping to watch it on my motorhome smart TV.
    I connected the phone to the USB socket on the TV, and switched the TV input source to 'USB'
    So far so good, 'USB 2.0' appeared at the top of the TV screen. That's as far I managed to get. I started playing the Netflix show on my phone, but no way can I work out how to make it appear on the TV.
    Step by step instructions would be much appreciated, both for the TV and also the phone settings....if it can be done at all !

    I don't think that will work. The TV is looking for files on the USB device. The netflix content won't show up as files on you're android phone. So type of a cable that goes from your phone to HDMI input on TV might work

    Thanks for the reply. So you're suggesting a lead that would connect the phone to the small HDMI socket on the TV? Does such a cable exist?
    Would I be able to transfer the downloaded show from my phone to my laptop, which has a mini HDMI socket and a lead that would then connect to the TV? ( You've probably noticed by now that I'm not a tekkie....)

    There are micro USB to HDMI cables, and they're not too expensive. But your phone would need to support it.

    I remember checking this out years ago, MHL was the function needed on the TV and likewise an MHL lead was needed, I think Samsung had the function at the time, that was some time ago so things may have changed.

    No mention of 'MHL' on the TV source menu.

    I'm pretty sure you can only watch them on the phone as the Netflix app blocks it for anti piracy reasons

    The right cable is determined by the connection on the phone.
    There are more than one specialised cables so make sure you get the correct one.

    So are you saying that an already downloaded movie on my phone won't through a connecting cable on my motorhome TV?

    You need to find out if your phone supports an MHL connection.

    If it does, you need to buy an MHL to HDMI converter and use this to connect your phone to the TV.

    Alas no, downloaded the MHL checker app. Huawei P20 lite doesn't support MHL.
    Back to the drawing board....the current favourite plan seems to be an Ezcast or Chromecast dongle (Ezcast is built in to the TV, might be simpler) and my wife's Huawei as a hotspot. We both have P20s btw with good bundles.
