My main use is on sat boxes with powered external hdd as 2 passport usb types dont work.

Strange checked out the photos and only shows usb connection but lists power supply in the specs, cheers.

Unboxing video here shows an AC adapter.

Mind you, that's provided it is the same model that we get.

I have the same drive, it’s externally powered. Great price for it.

Can this be cannibalised and used as in internal SATA drive? I know a lot of these externals have a custom PCB with non-SATA connectors.

Legend! Purchased. Should house a good fraction of my steam library.

Just to cover our behinds, lol.

It probably goes without saying that cannibalising this HDD will of course mean that you void your warranty. :P

I wonder would using the addresspal service and the US address help with the customs fees? :o

Different in what way? No power adapter?

There is still the chance of them being processed by customs when they hit Ireland, so kinda a gamble

No, she does come with a power adapter. I'm confusing myself here though. I just meant different, as in the plastic case. So it's not the same cannibalisation method to the one in the video.

Mind you, if I had actually looked at the pictures on amazon I would have realised that it is actually the right case that they gave me. It's the videos that are probably the older cases and they are throwing me.

I took a look at the addresspal FAQs and they do actually admit that your delivery will be subject to customs checks and charges if necessary.

With that said, if we take seimiks maths as gospel, that still gives you an 8TB HDD for approx €165 versus new price of €195 on Amazon Germany. ;)

This is €153 at checkout with shipping.
Got this other one for €163 which is in stock: WD My Book Desktop 8 TB - WDBBGB0080HBK-EESN https://www.amazon.de/dp/B01LWVT81X/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_gGVhDbKVXGJAG

Bought two of them and plan to shuck them to put it in a new DS218+ NAS I bought (from Amazon.co.uk).

Just saw this, something about its 3.3V pin not being compatible with that persons PSU in their machine. Doubt it would be a problem for most but something to keep in mind should it not appear when shuck and plugged into a machine directly.

Umm seems to be a common issue around the WD drives - link.

Mine looked quite different to the one in the dismantling vid.

Some guitar plecs and a screwdriver got the top off. Removed rubber spacing blocks and drive subassembly popped out. 4 screws on the sides and two holding the pcb to the drive to remove 9easy to miss those). Then used screwdriver as a lever to pry out drive gently.

The HDD that the OP flagged has now dropped in price to €151.

This drive (STGY8000400) is available on Amazon.co.uk (Prime day deal) for £109.
Seems like a good deal to me!
