Had a quick look on one of the sites and he seems to be 35th in the standings for Ryder Cup selection. Players like Jordan Smith and Ross Fisher are ahead of him. Surely the majors are weighted.

When did the points race start?
How is that right after the last 13 months he has had?

Even ignoring the two wins he has had a few top tens and was even top 15 at the weekend just passed.

Qualification only started in September or around then. He is 15th on the world points list currently in the rankings.

A lot of golf between now and September

Playing with Sergio and Brooks in Saudi this week, nice grouping for him - getting used to playing with world no. 1's and other major winners!! Nice!

my guess is as Open champion he will probably get to play with Tiger at the first round of Augusta -

  • Garcia will bring him down if he plays bad.

Defending champion normally plays with the US Amateur champion +1 if I remember correctly.

PGA usually has the current major winners out together

Three birdies in a row for Shane to get to 1 under for the tournament. Still well down the field, but nice to see him playing better.

Shane off to a bad start today +3 for his first 4 holes. He started on the 10th

Couple of birdies since then. +1 for the day playing the 18th (his 9th). Tough course this week.

Edit: Eagle on 18 to turn -1.

That was a lovely eagle to take him to -2

So Shane will be keeping hold of the Claret Jug for at least one more year after the cancellation of this year`s Championship due to the Covid-19 outbreak.

First man to retain the title without hitting a shot?

As far as the Open Championship is concerned, other than the two World Wars, yes he is.

I don’t think holding onto the trophy for a further year equates to retaining the title. But he will be the second golfer from Ireland this century to have the claret jug on his mantelpiece for two years in a row!

Shane did a Q&A with Kelan McDonagh this evening on Instagram. Its up on Kelan's page on #kmacgolfinstruction if anyone wants to check it out.

Kelan was an excellent amateur golfer and now a coach plying his trade out in the US.

Had a lesson with him a couple of years ago. Was a sound lad and a good coach

Darren Reynolds is going to be on the bag for a few weeks when they get back up and running. Bo's wife is due a baby. Reynolds has already flown out to the US and is quarantining.

Bo's father passed away last night as well. RIP

Shane playing some great golf from tee to green this week in Texas. The bad news is that he has a stone cold putter to boot on those fiery Bermuda greens (147th ranked out of 148 players this week in putts per gir). The pride of Offaly looks set to miss the cut unfortunately.

Leaving himself 6 - 8 shots behind the leader after almost every first round since he won the Open is not doing him any good.

Might be good for Shane if the Ryder cup is posponed until next year. Hasn't really got going since the open. For a big lad he doesn't hit it that far off the tee. 5.3 shots lost on the green yesterday was never going to end well.

He's averaging 310.8 this season on the PGA Tour which is 16th. He's certainly not short.

Averaged 284 tied for 130th over the first 2 days. Wonder does he look at what bryson has done and think that's something that might work for him.

Colonial is a tight tree-lined track with 12 dog-legged holes. Driving accuracy is more important than distance there.

True but the big hitters are going right over those doglegs.
