Valuation Office - Archieve Query

    Hi there

    I am looking for some guidance from anyone that might have some knowledge re: abbreviations associated with property valuations from the 1940’s-1960’s?

    I have found records that have the following notes associated with Description of Tenemant —- “Ho.Off & Land”

    Would anyone be able to explain the exact meaning of this note?

    Any help or guidance would be much appreciated.

    It's an abbreviation of house, office and land.

    Do you know if these records are “official “ or “government” records?

    One other thing; there is a reference map to which the item relates to - is it possible to access these maps? And is it a request to the Val Office also?

    The Valuation Office is a State office, so they are official.

    The maps are available in the Valuation Office but they just show you them on a computer.

    Also, just to be clear, "offices" means out buildings like a shed or an outdoor toilet, etc.

    Ok thanks for that;

    So I wonder is there any way for them to send screenshots as it’s not possible to go into the office at this stage?

    You'll have to ring them and ask, but I doubt it.

    They've no plans to put anything online and genealogy is only one facet of their remit.

    Just to clarify for VanPercy, the maps are also available online, as Pinky says the maps you see on computer in Val'n office are no different from what you can see online.
    The online maps are available free on askaboutireland. Just a word of caution - the map that appears first is usually a map from c. 1900, and may not correctly correspond with the ref. nos in the Valuation book from 1850's. You need to select the Versions of map to find appropriate one.
    In some cases Findmypast (subscription site) may have more versions of map than askaboutireland.

    But AAI often does not work well, and if you're not experienced with the area, it can take a long time to zoom in on the right part!
