All Galway NCT centres remain open with the introduction of specialised guidelines to help combat the spread of coronavirus.

In accordance with Government Covid-19 guidelines, only a certain number of people are allowed into waiting areas at a time.

I suggest to bring spray/wipes to wipe the steering wheel/dash/gearstick etc afterwards (although I am sure they wear gloves)

Not only afterwards but beforehand too.... we need to start thinking we (everyone) are potentionally spreading something even if we are ''ok''.

I booked my retest after failed lift inspection last Thursday, for Saturday 28th in Northpoint.

On Friday I got a text that the test must be cancelled & conducted at a later date.

I've sent 3 emails but no response. I'll ring tomorrow.

I have the lift inspection booked for northpoint 2 on the 23rd, haven't received anything to say it has been cancelled.

I sorted mine this morning, had a few attempts to get through.

My story was I'd passed 1st inspection, on 2nd lift inspection, I failed.

They'd put the day limit from 1st inspection & so when I went to apply for re-test, it was already overdue!

I rang NCT office on 12/3 and though it took a while to explain exactly what was wrong to the lady on the phone, they got it eventually, and booked a standard €28 retest for Saturday 28/3.

On 13/3, I received a text to say my test on 28/3 had been cancelled which I forwarded to info@nct for question, but no response so I rang today.

They've booked me in for 30/3 now. Apparently lady on phone on 12/3 made a mistake and booked me in for a free visual, though I actually need lifts. It suits me fine, but weird thing is, I'm supposed to be charged for the retest using lifts but they've waived that now. Not sure if I should believe them

Booked a retest yesterday for Saturday week, nothing on their website about cancelling tests, they did say that people would wait in their car to be called into the office (but what good will that do, still the same number of people in the waiting room, and some eejits last weekend had brought their kids)

    Confirmation text yesterday was this:
    NCT wrote:
NCT confirmed for xxDyyyy for Sat 28/03/2020 at hh:mm at the xxxx centre. Driver Licence and Vehicle Reg Doc. required, Booking ID xxxxxxx

Then 20 minutes ago got this text:
    NCT1 wrote:
Sorry we must cancel your NCT test which will be conducted at a later date NCT apologise for any inconvenience

Looks very dodgy, no details at all in there, no booking reference, the sender is different, bad grammar and phrasing. Nothing on the NCT website about tests being cancelled. I reckon this is a fake. Anyone else got similar?

surely in the current environment the guards are not going to come down hard on people with expired NCT's??

  • Registered Users Posts: 81,223 ✭✭✭✭biko

The NCTs is operating, so you should be able to get car checked as per normal.

Mine is booked for tomorrow. I'll be going and take a few basic precautions.

Why should they? The NCT is still being done so people have zero excuse for not having a valid NCT, anyone can bring the car once it's not NCT expired if the owner is vulnerable.

I would not get my car tested.
no idea where the guy testing it has been.
i mean, did he just test someone car who may have the virus?
and he is going to spend half an hour routing around my car..... not a hope

do people really still not realise this thing spreads by handling things and allowing a stranger to spend that much time in your car is a daft concept

    it should be stopped immediately

    Society must keep functioning.

Wipe everything after the test and drive with the windows open ;)

Well half a car in most centers.

Text is legit, i received same because they made mistake with rebooking my text. Ringing them is only way to sort it.

Yeah I now think it is legit, too, just badly done.

My retest needs the lift, failure point was a CV boot so no point going to a centre with no lifts. I initially couldn't get a decent retest date in Fonthill, so I booked Greenhills for the retest. After I posted here, I saw in another thread that Greenhills still has no functioning lifts, so no point doing the retest there. I cancelled and got a retest date in Fonthill within the required time.

Maybe they are looking at the failure points when people are booking retests in centres with no working lifts, and cancelling them when the retest needs the lift as it's pointless. Not handling the communications very well though.

    Life ain't always empty.

not all of them ....most are still in the process of replacing those lifts...whats the point in going in twice anyway?

I booked a test today for next Friday. Just got a text saying its been cancelled. No notice on the website as of yet. Is it shutting down? Am I ok to drive?

Just to add did a test on the 3rd of March. Due a retest (needs a lift inspection) and a visual on an indicator

  • Registered Users Posts: 883 ✭✭✭Keplar240B

The continuation of the NCT in these troubled times represents a clear and present danger to public health.
The failure of the government to shut it down is Grotesque, Unbelievable, Bizarre, and Unprecedented.

Agreed.. I’ve a car in the yard due the test. I’m lucky in that I don’t need it right now but frankly I ain’t risking bringing it to a test centre.

Absolutely. Act like you don't want to spread it. Not like you don't want to catch it.
