Met Éireann on 'high alert' as snow expected next week 04/02/2021.

Met Éireann has said it is on "high alert" for the second half of next week, as significant snow is expected.

Head of Forecasting Evelyn Cusack has said the country is in for some very cold weather from Sunday.

Speaking on RTÉ's News At One programme, Ms Cusack explained that a cold weather system is to move in from the Atlantic towards western Europe from Wednesday.

'Beast from the East Two' to bring snow, ice and floods 06/02/2021.

People are being urged to check in on the elderly and vulnerable as snow, ice and floods threaten disruption.

Amber warnings of heavy snow that could cause severe disruption to transport and utilities cover much of northern Scotland on Saturday.

They are also in place in parts of south-east England where Storm Darcy could bring winds and snow on Sunday.

Met Office weather expert Steven Keates said there will be "many similarities" to the Beast from the East in 2018.

Cold weather will last all week, although as the wind eases from midweek it won’t feel quite as bitter. Snow showers continue in eastern parts and then there’s chance of snow in the west at the end of the week but details are uncertain at this stage.
