Is that "Story" like a recurring meeting in Microsoft Outlook....

What a joke it's a new big freeze every week

What a joke it's a new big freeze every week

"The mercury is expected to plunge to below freezing"

Something about the use of that term in the media just grates on my senses - like scraping nails off a blackboard. In the summer, it'll be 'the mercury is expected to rise'.

Mercury EXPANDS when warmed and CONTRACTS when cooled. It neither rises or falls. Please populist cheapo media outlets, just say it is going to cool down or warm up - it might give your readers the illusion that you actually know what you are talking about.

From out there on the moon, international politics look so petty. You want to grab a politician by the scruff of the neck and drag him a quarter of a million miles out and say, ‘Look at that, you son of a bitch’.

Not going to even look because they don't deserve a single hit for the kind of weather tripe that they publish. Absolute rag.

Biggest scaremongering clowns out there along with the express, what happened to their worst winter in 200 years and 3 month long deep freeze, no doubt it will be an apocalyptic hurricane by tomorrow mornings publication.

Has that New Zealand fella anything to say - surely he should have forecasted something like this.

By my reckoning, he has now got August, Sept, Oct, Nov, Dec, Jan and early Feb so unbelievably wrong.

Why is he so quiet? - Normally he is screaming on every radio station possible.

And before people say "he predicted the hot july - he also predicted in the exact same forecast "drought conditions in August and September" - so 1 out of 3 months correct for that prediction. - that's 33% or a fail in my book.

A punishing ice storm slammed Slovenia earlier this week, paralyzing parts of the country. Freezing rain encased trees, cars, and power lines in unthinkably thick layers of ice.

“Three days of blizzards and a freak ice storm have inflicted “the worst devastation in living memory” in the small Alpine country of Slovenia as life in half of the country is frozen in place,” writes Business Insider.

Clowns, as is James Madden and exacta weather.

What it does show is that weather sells and the more sensationalist the weather you have to sell the better whether it is true or not. Regular people seem to forget these wrong forecasts fast and still go to James madden for forecasts.

    Its the same every year.

    published Thursday, January 02, 2014
“2014 is a year bringing no records broken, no lasting heatwaves and no expected extremes,” he said. “Some things stand out, like the south wetter than the north during the early months, an unusually cold second half of May, and the possibility of flooding in August and November in the West and Midlands.”

After years of washouts, the long hot summer last year sent the country into a feelgood mode for a few balmy months. However, Mr Ring is not predicting a repeat of last year.

“Summer is expected to be sunnier and warmer than average, but there may be a lack of high daytime temperatures, especially during August,” he said.

“The most settled periods of summer are during the last 10 days of each month of the season. In particular, the last weeks of June and July may be significantly dry, warm, bright and sunny.

“June is a mild month with scattered days of early warmth until some hot days in the third week and then a sunny last week, during which time thermometers may soar.

“Temperatures are fairly constantly in the 20s after the 19th July, with the final three or four days in July possibly among the hottest for the season.

“August temperatures may be mostly in the 20s, but cloud and intermittent rain make it disappointing for outdoor activities.”

“After January, the most precipitation for the may be November, followed by October, with September likely to be the driest.”

St Patrick’s Day is expected to be dry, according to his almanac but Mr Ring said the first hint of real sun will arrive in May.

Mr Ring expects the months with the most rainfall to be January, November, and October

He missed February! And no predictions of massive storms.

Honestly, what is the point of a forecast with a 'may' and 'possible' in every single sentence? Now look I know how forecasting works and how you can never be certain, but if you are going to write it like that what use is it? What information does it actually tell you? Does he have a hidden % system for each of his phrases?

tbf here is what M.T. says:

FRIDAY ... Variable cloud, breezy or windy with gusts to 70 km/hr, and feeling cooler than today with afternoon highs near 14 C.

SATURDAY ... Showers or longer periods of rain, some embedded thunderstorms, and temperatures held down to about 12 C during this rainfall which may amount to 20-30 mm. Some areas could get a bit of clearing by afternoon and this could allow temperatures to reach 14 C. Winds veering from southwest to west-northwest 50-70 km/hr at times, although the stronger winds will be more prolonged around west and south coasts than most other regions, spreading across those areas towards late afternoon.

FURTHER OUTLOOK ... Past about Wednesday of next week the trend continues to look a little improved over this week, but confidence in this remains moderate at best. Also there is quite a spread in the guidance on how strong the warming signal might be and how long it could last.
