I just saw this on Kerry county Council's page regarding water:

"Due to the increased demand during this period of warm and dry weather, there are shortages in some of the county's public water supplies.
Overnight curtailments may be necessary in some supplies.
Customers are asked to please avoid unnecessary usage.
Irish Water and Kerry County Council thank you for your co-operation."

And Lidl selling big swimming pools that people are filling from their household taps....

I'm trying to put down my little boy for primary school next year (sept 2021), so making a bit of a short-list of schools. I have one main one, but I am also having back ups just in case. I just thought of Tralee Educate together and was wondering does anyone know what that school is like or know anyone that goes there and what they think?

for what it is worth, cousins in Cork sent their 3 to an Educate together and they are very happy with the progression the children are making. The children themselves are very happy in school.
A friend has a child in Educate Together in Tralee, and he is equally happy.

All I would say is when the Educate Together are back up and running, (leave them be until late Sept), email them and see if you can visit the school with your little boy - you can get a sense of the school then. Enrollments usually happen around February - but they will take a child's form at any time of the year.

Curriculum wise all schools would be the same, its the extras that count and have a look at class size

Except for the gaelscoil of course. The benefits of growing up bilingual cannot be overstated.

I went to all Irish speaking schools from primary upwards and loved it. I want to send him to scoil Mhic Easmainn, but as my husband doesn't speak any Irish, he is a bit worried it may not be to his advantage. He didn't grow up in Ireland, so not familiar with the Irish schooling system. I personally loved learning Irish, although I am ashamed to say I am not great at having a conversation in Irish anymore...it is 25 years since I left school though! My only issue was that when I went to third level, I found it a bit harder as I was so used to being taught in Irish and certain terms etc were confusing so I struggled a bit for a while. I tend to still count in Irish rather than in English!
I do know people who have sent their kids to the gaelscoil and they love it. I have to try and convince the other half its not a bad idea!

I will be putting his name down for the gaelscoil, as I'm sure I won't have trouble getting him in as a first preference due to me being a past pupil. I just wanted to check out other options also.

I can't even believe I am already at this stage of looking for schools. I am dreading him going off to school, he's still my baby!!

Fully agree - am bilingual myself and am very sorry I didn't send my 2 oldest to the gaelscoil.

It's funny you should say that as I am the exact same!! I hate counting in English - it feels so wrong!

It's funny to think that Irish was listed at about 21st in languages spoken in the last census!

    Funny?

In alphabetical order, presumably, rather than numerically speaking.

Didn't take the ESB long to fix the power cut, roughly quarter of an hour.

No, it was a thread here on boards at the time...it was behind Tagalog...
When it comes to daily speakers... All the European languages are understandably way ahead... daily Irish speakers are less than 2% of the GP

Sorry if this is more of a 'Tralee do you know' question, but when is Penney's actually meant to be reopening? Is it in phase 3? end of June?

I know smaller boutiques are reopening from Monday, which is great, but haven't heard anything about Penneys yet.

I wonder how busy the town will be with more shops open from next week.

It depends on their overall policy...a lot of Penneys stores won't be able to open until August 10th.as they share space in a shopping centre.
So it depends on whether or not they will let some open, while others have to stay closed.....you would think they will... but there's no solid word from them as of yet

Before the shutdown, was the shop that did frames (i.e. would frame something for you) in the arcade still open?

Yes, I think it was Hilliards. They were still in business before covid-19 shutdown, but I don't know when the arcade is due to reopen.

Not before August 10th under the current roadmap.

I reckon it was a planned outage as they had an automated message up within minutes saying it was a known issue and would be resolved shortly

I regret not sending my 2 to the Gaelscoil and have very little Irish myself so wouldn't have been any help to them.

So now things are being speeded up and large retailers will be able to open from next Monday. Will have to wait on an announcement from Primark themselves though as they may need some days to get themselves organised to be able to open.

I personally can't wait to get back into TK Maxx! :D

Should we be surprised ? I wonder will his holier than thou leader Mary Lou have anything to say, probably not. Even though she was the only one trying to rabble rouse when Leo Varadkar was socialising in phoenix park last week without breaching any rules.
Typical arrogance and “one law for us , another for everyone else” attitude. I’ve had to miss 2 funerals during lockdown including one of a very close friend that I most definitely should have been at but it was in Tralee and I’m currently living in Kildare, oh and I’m not a Sinn Fein TD.
Sickening. If it happened in the UK it would and did lead to honourable resignation in 2 of the 3 cases there.

You did read it was last Friday? When 90% of the people of Kerry were out and about all over the county. It would have been news if it happened a couple of weeks earlier but for it to make the front page of the Kerry’s eye and any newspaper is a joke.
It’s not as if he was at the beach or anything recreational, it was a funeral which he felt obliged to attend.

Looks like Pa Daly believes he's above the law.

I think he deserves a break. He was a pallbearer so obviously it was a close relationship. I'm not pro SF and I have personally adhered to all government restrictions but let's be human about this

Travel restriction to be changed from proposed 20k from Monday to within your County. I guess that makes it easier for the Guards identifying what vehicles to spot check.
