Diarmaid Ferriter, Anne Doyle, Ardal O'Hanlon, Celine Byrne

Ferriter is a bore. Arrogant too. Not even the best historian in UCD - not by a long shot.

Are there any Irish people who are loved by everybody, or practically everybody anyway?
The only 1 I can think of to even come close to it is Mícheál Ó Muircheartaigh.
    Any others?

Two pals of mine was taught by him in O'Connell Schools many years ago - and they always maintained that he was a nasty teacher (in fairness, they were diehard soccer players and, according to them, MO'M absolutely hated soccer!)

He's a huge greyhound fan too and I don't have much time for the greyhound racing/coursing fraternity.

Is Michael D. Higgins not rather well regarded?

Packie Bonnar. Never heard anything bad about him.

    Larry Gogan.

    Katie Taylor

    Maybe Bill O Herlihy.

My favourite but not sure what others think Brendan Grace

It's well known that Bonnar is a prick.

Well, he certainly thinks very highly of himself.

I'd nominate Enya. Not one for the limelight and her music has a nice quality. Have never heard anyone complaining about her. Not here even so that's saying something.

But she's a woman so she doesn't count apparently

Is there a list of acceptable accents before we look at achievements such as Olympic gold medal and undisputed champion of the world holding all belts, never done by anyone. And even though I hate religion, I never formed an opinion based on someone having a personal faith.

Mostly, but there's a cohort of people who really don't like him - they're usually the kind of people who'd use his height and voice against him. Cunts, essentially.

Always thought he was as loveable as was possible.

From the Slane pictures to his persona!

    I like him anyway

I think he was Ireland's best politician since O'Connell but I don't think he was universally loved, he had plenty of critics over the years.

In the early '90s, the Sunday Independent used to have a hit piece on him every week. Really vicious stuff. A lot of those columnists haven't gone away either.

Id listen to Mícheál Ó Muircheartaigh all day, he could talk about the life cycle of the earthworm and I would still enjoy his use of language and turn of phrase. Nearest living thing to a hemingway or shaw.

Anyone well known enough to be universally well known will tend to have traits or opinions that wont be popular with everyone such as micheal o'leary or christy moore.
Id add Denis Irwin to the mix though only soccer fans would love him but hes unassuming enough that people wont dislike at least.

    Why?

A mellifluous hypocrite who extols terrorists. A sickening creep.
