Afaik, there are no plans to put them online but the vast majority of counties are now digitised for quicker searches in the Valuation Office.
I have to do some work there soon so I'll see if there's an update.

Slightly off topic, but my problem with following up a house history relates to the House Book (not cancelled books). The particular house I am looking at appears in a House Book c. 1840, but unfortunately the online version has a piece of paper (with modern hand written note) obscuring part of the text. Are the original House Books still available in the val.off, or have they withdrawn them now that they are online?

    I don't know.

They're not online - they're just scans on computers.

Ah, no, I've misunderstood. The House books are on the NAI site as well and form part of the preparatory work for the Primary Valuation, whereas what's in the Valuation Office follows on from Griffiths.
The original books would be in the NAI.

And this would be why new topics should be used for different points. I've split the thread to avoid further confusion.

FamilySearch have House Books online among their Irish Valuation Office Books, 1831 -1856, https://www.familysearch.org/search/collection/2329951

or have I misunderstood your point?

these are earlier, not the same as the Cancelled Land Books / Revaluation Books

these are also available on the National Archives : http://census.nationalarchives.ie/search/vob/home.jsp
    (bit slow at the moment)
