    North Kildare 2-3 St Benildus

An opportunity dropped for us at the top I think.

Any result from Rathmines B v Kilkenny last month? It's very tight at the top now with two matches left; 5 teams are scoring 60% or more. That match will confirm exactly how tight.

The Rathmines B v Kilkenny match has yet to be played. Hopefully the 10th March will work for both sides.

North Kildare are improving all the time and have some very promising players.

It has been a very open league will most teams capable of beating each other. Kilkenny’s squad is very impressive and the real battle is likely for the second playoff spot behind them.

    Benildus 4.5-0.5 UCD.

    Big upset there

    Kilkenny 4 Rathmines B 1

Kilkenny have a very strong Bodley team and are 1300+ on their top four boards!

Great result for us! We may be slight favourites for the second promotion spot now.

    Rathmines A 3.5 Bray/Greystones 1.5

It sets everything up for the last round against St Benildus between two very young squads.

Tonight’s game was an interesting match up between a very young team and a veteran team with an average age difference of circa 60 years per board.

It’s very impressive that one of Brays players is still playing league chess at age 94. He must surely be the oldest active player in the country.

Could barely have set it up any better - just half a point between the two ahead of the last round.

Kilkenny in third should get promoted, as they have a match in hand and first v second will cost points there.

Any result from Rathmines B v Gorey yet? Rathmines B are the only other team who can get promoted.

Or indeed, any result from Kilkenny v North Kildare?

    Gorey 2 Rathmines B 3

So that puts Rathmines B all but out of it; they need a 5-0 win in their last match and a 3-2 win for Rathmines A against Benildus.

Otherwise, if we assume Kilkenny will get promoted, then it's pure winner-takes-all when Rathmines A play Benildus next month - whoever wins goes up (and we go up if it's a draw)

How does the promotion from the Bodley to BEA work? Is there a 4 way play off with the top two from North and South with two promoted?

Or do 4 teams get promoted, 2 each to the BEA North and South?

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 7,125 Mod ✭✭✭✭cdeb

I believe top two in each group promoted, and bottom two in each BEA relegated. (That was the plan anyway!)

Then BEA/Bodley can be regionally rejigged as necessary.

There'd probably be a play-off for the title, but I think that would only involve the two division winners.

    St Benildus 1-4 Rathmines.

Didn't expect it to be quite so clear-cut! But well done to Rathmines on their promotion
