Ah I know the course is measured correctly. It was more a question/onservance on what is possible if you run the correct line.

To the lady who picked up the €50 off the ground just after the start, you owe me a drink!!!
Flew off with the 4 hour pacers and was comfortable until I emptied at 25k, real struggle to get home, finished 04:14, still 5 mins better than last year so I’m chuffed with that.

On page 21 of the Race Programme, it gives lists of the prize funds. One of the headings is "Time Bonus (Irish Athletes)". Can every Irish athlete who broke these times expect to get some prize money?

I wonder who will take over from Airtricity next year? Heard a rumour it's Virgin Media.

Oh lord. I hope they run it better then they run their TV and internet services.

The course is measured with a jones counter, an instrument which is much more accurate than any gps watch so even though most watches will read over the distance, the course itself is almost certainly 42.2k to IAAF standards. The time you ran is your chip time, not your watch time as gps watches just aren't precise enough.

I’d say a lot if it is down to how you teke corners and you position on the road

Very little I'd imagine, satellite gps just isn't that accurate that it can pinpoint your position down to a square metre on the road. The signal is a pulse as well so it's not constantly sending information. It's basically connecting a load of dots together. I bet if you ran every single tangent on a course, it would still come back with a different reading to the measured course. Everything has a degree of inaccuracy when measuring even the jones counter that measures a course which is why they have a short course prevention method built into IAAF protocols.

What gives a better degree of measurement, a school ruler or something that measures to a nanometer? But both will still have innacuracies. You can only measure by using reference points and some measures have a bigger tolerance than others. Which is why even running tangents won't give a very accurate measure of how far you really ran on gps, the tolerance is larger and the method of measurement isn't quite good enough to pull off that level of precision yet.

Run a lap around a 400m track and you will see this.

Strange that the actual date is not on the t-shirt, in keeping with previous years. I'm not one to complain about shirts, btw. Probably an oversight.

Productive day for me, 3:57 compared to 4:11 from 2017.

 Why not just sync your Strava account to your Garmin Connect and save yourself the hassle (it'll automatically push over activities from GC to Strava.

    Might be televised?

I don't know if that would be a good thing now, I'd love to see it televised out to everyone but the coverage might suffer as a result and get watered down to the levels of some of the big marathons. I thought the coverage on the live stream yesterday was excellent even though Ian O'Riordan annoys me a little in the first half commentary. The JTG lads were excellent and the actual coverage of the race was brilliant imo, they didn't miss any of the breaks in the lead groups and showed the whole race up front. I'd go as far as saying that the coverage was one of the best I've seen in years and was done on probably a fraction of the cost of all the other marathons which are broadcast on major TV stations. I think it just shows how good the organising committee behind the DCM are.

If they could keep that while taking it to TV, it would be brilliant but in all likelihood, it wouldn't happen and all the coverage would get watered down.

That's a good point, I was only praising the stream yesterday after the race as I was away last year and watched it on YouTube, of course people are interested in the lead men\women but it's great that the DCM stream shows all the runners at various parts of the race.

You’re right there, but I only got the watch recently, second hand cheaply enough, after my previous device died. Turns out I need an ant+ stick which didn’t come with it. Will get one sometime, but the phone does the trick for recording and can check pace on watch.

Actually really happy with that, I stopped for a comfort break for a second just after the 30K mark and the 3:50s went past me. I settled back into my pace but they moved up the road about a minute or so it seemed. I wasn't keeping my eye on them much to be honest. Struggled a bit around Clonskeagh where the pace dropped to 9:20s but managed to get my arse back in gear going up the UCD flyover and drove home my best from there passing people at a decent rate (unlike last year's run/walk at this stage). Last 3+ miles were 8:44, 8:35, 8:27, 7:44 (pace for half mile).

Delighted with my time of 3.18.52, Missed my target of 3.15 but my time is still a PB by 13 minutes.
I was going really well until miles 22 and still looked like 3.15 was in sight but a niggle in left calf slowed me down, But managed to run through it.

Over 3 mins off my pb but just happy I ran the whole thing without stopping and over the disappointment now. My target was a bit ambitious after a messy few weeks.

My first marathon. My half marathon time of 1:38 gave me a bit of room to work with in getting under 4. I really decided I’m the two weeks before that I would stay comfortable in my first marathon and that’s how i did it. Started at the back of wave 2 (waiting for loos!) which really helped with taking it easy. Ran two splits of 1:54 each to finish in 3:48. Really happy with that and felt good all the way bar the last mile when the super support pulled me home. A wonderful race, nearly got emotional at the support sometimes :) thank god that training block is over and back to hill running for the next while. Will I be back? ... when does registration open? :)
