Anyone been scammed by a roofer recently . A check on the roof section in the golden pages reveals that most companies are not registered . I doubt they have any screening of such companies .The review system on those advertising is almost non existent .
They claim C2 vat, insurance and use only mobile numbers and no or a fake address .You suspect a scam call the guards and ask for receipt to justify the charge .A scam roofer in my area has a large van with his logo doing this for years . He just changes the company name .
The government is still dragging heels on legislation to register companies in the building trade .

What's the scam exactly? Did he promise you a roof and deliver a floor? Or was he just incompetent and put the roof up backwards?

I think this is a thread about a fella who has a qualification and licence in nailing slates to roof and is taking the opportunity to do down the competition (unregistered scoundrels)

Just another day in the cut throat world of roof repairs.

Ageing panel van with no name/number? Rough looking fellas inside? They're not registered.

A lot of tradesmen don't signwrite vans anymore.
It tells would be thieves what may be inside and also some insurance companies are loading the premium for that reason.

You are sounding very naive there :pac:
Look am not having a go at you just use some common sense.
Anyone with a ladder and a van can call themselves a roofer.

Also why would golden pages or any other place 'screen' companies? How could they or why should they. All about making money. Selling listings to businesses.

That's why calling any tradesmen is a game of roulette.

Totally agree, a mobile billboard. My current van is the first not to have my details on it.

They exist because people would rather get a job done cheap than
    done well.

Back in the day you actually knew reliable builders . They change so much now . I actually called this guy to fix a neighbors roof . He quoted a price then took of the slates and said it would cost more .Roulette for sure .

    Hi,

Any chance youd remember the company name they used?? Getting quoted from a few roofers but I'm very sceptical about their credentials.

    Thanks

This Roofer was in the Carlow area called Everest . The best way is to ask for Insurance ,Vat number and say you can only pay by cheque .

    It's their culture boss.

If one of those calls to your house, don't let it in.

It'll scope out your house and if it sees anything worth robbing, it'll be back.

It'll do a shit job and demand extortionate money.
